Independence Punch

Happy 4th of July!! I know its kinda late in the day over here on the East Coast, as the 4th of July is coming to an end. I will be posting more 4th of July Recipes later to keep a record of for next year, but I really wanted to share this one now.

It is pretty much the coolest punch ever haha.

What you need:

Cranberry Juice
Blue Gatorade Frost
Diet 7-Up
Ice cubes

What to do:

(Either in a Glass or a drink dispenser)

Fill the glass or drink dispenser with Ice.

Pour In the Cranberry Juice.

Next Pour in the Blue Gatorade Frost, BUT make sure that when you're pouring the Blue Gatorade Frost that you pour straight onto some of the ice to gently add the layer. If you pour it directly into the juice it will mix!

Next, pour in the Diet 7up, also pour onto an ice cube to prevent them from mixing.

I suppose you could do this with any color drink combo.

You need to use drinks with varying amounts of sugar, since those that contain more sugar (such as soda) are denser than those with less (such as diet drinks), this makes it possible to actually stack one on top of another.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July!! Don't forget why we are celebrating!!

you know what's great? I have a 12 pack of blue Mountain Dew that I was looking for something to do with... I'm thinking this would work well =)

Very cool, but don't the drinks come out as cranberry juice, Gatorade, or 7-Up, depending on when you dispense it?

This is SO COOL!!!! (Now I need a beautiful drink jar so I can try it out.)

This is a very cool idea---I always wondered how restaurants got those drinks to stay unmixed, and now I know the secret. Saving it now so I can do it for Labor Day:) Thanks so much for sharing.

BigBearswife said...

I thought that too, but it actually came out as like a blueish clear drink no matter what the layer haha

I love this!!! I can't wait to try it out with others drinks. Thanks.

That looks fantastic. Never knew you could make 'layered' drinks!

Just found this on a friend's Pinterest board. I have two questions: (1) do the flavors all mix together when you dispense? (2) is it (chemically) important to use Diet 7-Up?

Where did you get the drink container? It's super cute, and I've been seeing them in lots of pictures. I want one!

I got it from Marshalls :)

This is awesome! :) I really love it! I found it through Pinterest and I'm so glad I did. Any suggestions for a top layer that isn't carbonated? Thanks for sharing!

I saw this on Pinterest and had to leave you a comment. 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays and I go all out. I am soooo trying this punch this year. My kids will love it. Thank you for the idea.

This is the concept used to make those fun layered drinks in bars -- you're right, different quantities of sugar in each drink is the key.

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing with us ~ I know I'll find an excuse to serve this Red, White and Blue drink.

I LOVE this! My 6 year old son loves Presidents so we are using this (and calling it Patriotic Puch or Presidential Punch) for his birthday party this weekend. Thank you for the AWESOME idea!!!

I just pinned this. I love it. Just wondering if diet sprite would work instead and for an adult party, would this work with a flavored vodka or anything?

BigBearswife said...

I have not tried it with flavored vodka yet. Let me know if you do

Anonymous said...

Please answer how it dispenses. All mixed up or one layer at a time?

BigBearswife said...

Our's came out kinda like a mix, it was more like a purple drink dispensed into the glasses

Can I ask where you got your cute drink dispenser?

BigBearswife said...

I got it from Marshalls :)

Anonymous said...

What amounts of each drink did you use?

BigBearswife said...

For this one I used about a liter of each, but it all depends on what size container or glass you're using.

Could you let me know if you have to use Diet 7up?

Anonymous said...

Probably need something low or absent in sugar which explains the diet soda. The 7up is clear, hence the white layer for this drink combo.

jenifer mitchell said...

Does it have to be necessarily cranberry juice? I'm not a fan of it much!

Does it have to be cranberry juice? I'm not much of a fan!

Angie Barrett said...

no you don't have to use cranberry juice, you'll just need to use a red drink with the same sugar content as the cranberry. Those that contain more sugar (such as soda) are denser than those with less (such as diet drinks), this makes it possible to actually stack one on top of another.

Cara said...

Would Red Hawaiian punch or something along those lines work?

Angie Barrett said...

Hey Cara,

As long as it has the same sugar content

I love this idea, I was just wondering if the layers start to mix together? I read on someone else's blog that you need to drink it pretty fast, as the layers start to blend.

Angie Barrett said...

Kathy,

I had it out for a few hours and the punch layers didn't mix

B.A.N.Crespin said...

Mine wouldn't layer... :(

But it tastes amazing!!

Looks great, but does it taste good?

I love this! So very festive for the 4th holiday. Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing. :)

Didn't work for us :(
I used sprite 0 bcz that was all the store had this morning. Wonder if that is why it didn't work.

Made the exact recipe today..turned out cool looking but taste was weird. Ill try something other then cranberry juice next time. Like the Hawaiian punch idea :) Love how it looks so I'm going to try it with differentcolors for different holidays. Tammi

Made this yesterday! It was delish and looked cool too! Crowd pleaser for sure! One down side - if you want to make a 2nd batch you must empty the entire container. Can't make 2nd batch with remainders of first batch in container. Doesn't separate well. Thanks for the awesome idea!!

This is gonna be so cool for my girls bday party. Can I use blueberry juice as a layer?

Shannon said...

This is such a fun idea and I hope I can remember to try it next year! Pinned it, that'll do the trick. :)

As good as this might be for a birthday party, I can think of one other use for it. Just because it has gatorade in it, the punch would make for one of the best pre workouts I know of. Drinking it afterwards will also be a good idea to relieve exhaustion.
