How to make Japanese White Sauce YUM YUM SAUCE at home:
In a Medium bowl, stir the mayonnaise and water, until combined. Add ketchup, melted butter garlic powder, sugar, and paprika and stir. Stir, Stir, Stir.
If you want to make it easier to get smooth, microwave the mixture for about 30 seconds. You don’t want to get it hot at all, but just enough to help the mayo mix in well.
I usually refrigerate for about 30 minutes before using.
Store in an air-tight container in fridge.

I would add a tablespoon of vinegar if you use ketchup otherwise tomato paste is a better alternative.

I suppose you could 🙂 But I wouldn’t want to open a whole can of tomato paste for 1 tablespoon. 🙂 We like the ketchup in it 🙂

I need to check and see if I can find some of the tubes of tomato sauce! Then I would probably use the tomato sauce. I just don’t want to open a can for such a small amount haha 🙂

when I open a can of tomato paste I use what i need and then put it in a zip lock bag. then separate it with your fingers by pressing on the bag. normally about four section and fold like an accordion, place in the freezer. then you can break off what you need next time.

I’m looking for the recipe where I go to eat.It’s China Buffet and they have a white sauce they put in chicken and shrimp.They say its only coconut milk but I know better.It doesn’t taste like coconut milk..but it has a sweet kinda taste to it.. love it its like a mayo base because its kinda thick but not alot and so good..pleae help..It may be thia food.

Well I can’t tell you what China Buffet uses becauese I don’t know but the recipe above is the “white sauce” I use.

I made this to go with the Crack Slaw recipe. I had weight loss surgery so I subbed greek yogurt for the mayo. Still very yummy. Thank you for the recipe.

Do you heat this up to eat. I love mayo chicken so would this be the sauce??

Hey Leeanne! I don’t heat it up when I use it. I suppose you could but I’ve never done that. I know some people like for it to come to room temp before using it but for me, once I pour it on super hot food it heats up pretty quick. I’m not sure what mayo chicken is so I don’t think this is it. This is the sauce that you get at the Japanese restaurants and steakhouses. Like the “yum yum” sauce.

Hello I just made some and it’s to mayonnaise’s for me I put everything in like the recipe but has a strong taste of mayo how can I fix it?

You can try playing around with ratios. I’m not sure how to fix it since I can’t be there to taste what you made and the way the recipe reads is how we like it haha. I’d probably try adding a little more ketchup and garlic powder if I was working on it.

This sauce is awesome. We eat with chicken and veggies. It’s very low carb which I like and it tastes amazing. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Sadly the Yum-yum sauce is NOT the Japanese white sauce that people constantly claim. They are TWO distinct different tasting sauces. The reddish color is distinct in the Yum-yum sauce that has more like a thousand island type flavor while the White sauce tastes different.
I have been to a few Japanese restaurants and some have a couple have two different types of sauces.
I have tried the Yum-yum sauce and it’s not what we are looking for and we are still looking today for the actual white sauce.
The sauce here is great but not the same thing.

Hi Todd. Sorry it wasn’t what you were looking for. We go to Japanese restaurants a lot and they only have 1 white sauce (they offer white sauce or ginger sauce) around here. They also call the white sauce “yum yum” sauce at the Japanese restaurants here. What does the white sauce you’re looking for taste like?
