When I set out to make Copycat Olive Garden breadsticks, I knew that I wanted them to be amazing and something that you would want to keep eating (just like those from Olive Garden).

I looked up a lot of breadstick recipes and tried a lot in the kitchen before working on my own to see what I liked and disliked about each. I found that a lot of the breadsticks that came from those breadstick recipes online were hard, too dry, too dense and just not something I would want to keep eating again and again.

So after a few attempts in the kitchen and way more breadsticks baked in my oven then ever before, I figured out a recipe that I fell in love with and I hope you will too.

These breadsticks are soft, fluffy, lightly browned and covered in savoy garlic powder!

Why You Should Make these easy breadsticks…

  • wonderfully, light and fluffy
  • perfect for serving with pastas and soups
  • great for dipping into marinara
  • vegan and vegetarian safe breadsticks
  • AlpahGal Safe Homemade Breadsticks

QUICK GLANCE AT INGREDIENTS for Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks:

  • active dry yeast
  • Dixie Crystals Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
  • warm water (110F)
  • all purpose flour
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • margarine*
  • garlic powder

*You can use butter in place of margarine but Olive Garden does not use butter on their breadsticks, they use margarine because their breadsticks are vegan and dairy free

How to make my favorite Copycat Olive Garden Breadstick Recipe:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the dry active yeast and sugar.

  2. Pour warm water over yeast sugar mixture and let sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to bloom.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  4. Pour yeast mixture into flour, add olive oil and stir. Stir together until dough pulls away from bowl.

  5. Place dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead dough for 10 minutes.

  6. If dough becomes too sticky, lightly dust hands with flour and continue kneading.

Dough should smooth but slightly tacky after 10 minutes of kneading.

  7. Place dough into a bowl that has been lightly oiled with olive oil, rotating dough to make sure it is completely covered in oil.

  8. Lightly cover dough bowl with tea towel and set in a warm place to proof for 1 hour.

  9. After an hour, remove dough and separate it into 16 equal pieces (about 2 ounces each)

  10. Use hands to roll each piece into breadsticks about 7 -8 inches long.

  11. Lay breadsticks on a prepared baking sheet about an inch or so apart (may need two baking sheets)

  12. Lay a clean tea towel on top of breadsticks, place them into a warm place and let rise for 1 hour.

  13. Preheat oven to 400F.

  14. Bake breadsticks in preheated oven for 12 minutes.

  15. While breadsticks are baking, melt margarine in small bowl and mix with garlic powder.

  16. As soon as breadsticks come out of oven, brush melted garlic margarine over breadsticks.

  17. I light to do double layers of margarine and garlic powder!
