Rockola Ranch Dressing is my absolute favorite ranch dressing ever! I first had it when I worked at Rockola Cafe in college and it quickly because my go-to dressing and dip! Like hundreds of other people, I lost my favorite ranch dressing when the restaurants closed down years ago.
However, after research, talking to cooks, testing, testing, testing and more testing…I HAVE IT! I’ve recreated the famous Rockola Ranch! I can’t wait to you to try it!
Quick Glance at what you’ll need to make Copycat Rockola Ranch Dressing Recipe: (amounts in recipe card below)

How do you make The BEST restaurant ranch ever?
The most important piece of this ranch recipe is the seasoning:
This is a very particular ranch dressing that just happens to be the best ranch dressing ever. Since it’s a very particular ranch dressing that means that it also have a very particular seasoning that you need to make it.
The Sauer’s Original Buttermilk Ranch Seasoning Mix is the absolutely BEST seasoning and if you want to taste exactly like Rockola ranch, you need it!
I’ve tested this recipe with Hidden Valley ranch seasoning and it’s just not the same. I also had to triple the Hidden Valley dry seasoning in the recipe to even get anywhere close to this ranch.
Here is the thing, The Sauer’s Original Buttermilk Ranch Seasoning Mix comes in a pretty large package. It actually comes in 12 envelopes but you have to buy it on Amazon in a large packet. I would suggest getting together with a few friends and ordering it together OR if you’re really a ranch lover, just jump on it and grab yourself a big ol’ pack! haha
Next is the mayonnaise:
Yes, I love Dukes and I use Dukes mayo a lot! However, this recipe needs Hellmann’s! Dukes and Hellmann’s are taste and smell completely different. To make this recipe taste just like the restaurant ranch dressing, you’re going to need to use Hellmann’s Mayo.
Ps. On the West Cost Hellmann’s is called “Best Foods” mayo but with the same logo design.
Mix and Chill:
Other than those two major needs for this recipe, the sour cream can really be any brand that you want. I use Daisy but it doesn’t need to be that one.
Just mix everything together, pop it into the fridge for about 30 minutes or so to chill it and it’s ready to enjoy!
Keep this in the fridge in an air tight container.
What about Hidden Valley Ranch Seasonings and Other homemade ranch seasonings:
I’ve tested this recipe a ton and tweaked it to make it just right.
I even tested it a few times with the Dry Hidden Valley Seasoning mix and just couldn’t get it to taste exactly the same. When I made it with the Hidden Valley seasoning, I had to triple the amount of dry ranch seasoning to even get it semi close to this recipe.
The Hidden Valley seems to have more dry buttermilk in the seasoning pack were the Sauers is just the ranch mix. Give it a try with the dry ranch seasoning from the store and let me know what you think. I’m going to keep experimenting here at home with the store bought seasonings too and I will update this post with what I find out.
Brandie over at CountryCook.net has a Ranch Seasoning mix that might also good to try with this recipe but I haven’t tested it out yet. If I were making her recipe for dry seasoning, I would leave out the powdered buttermilk part of her seasoning recipe.

Just for clarification, the ounces specified for mayo, sour cream and buttermilk are not by weight, but rather by liquid measuring cup ounces. Is that correct?
correct 🙂
Well, you must have a huge audience!! I couldn’t find the seasoning mix anywhere. Everywhere I looked was sold out☹️
Hi Lolo!! Hopefully Amazon will have it back in stock soon! I did find it here and here – although kind of expensive but you could probably split the order with some friends 🙂
