A classic southern candy with crunchy peanut butter and a sweet honey twist.
This Honey Cornflake Candy is a sponsored recipe that was made for Dixie Crystals by BigBearsWife. But as you already know, as always all opinions are 100% mine. 🙂
We’ve been in the new place for almost a week and I feel totally comfortable there. It’s like it’s meant to be. Unfortunately between work, unpacking and other obligations I haven’t really gotten to enjoy much downtime here but it’s still wonderful when I do have a moment or two to just take it all in.
We’re downtown now and when I tell someone our new address I get a mix of responses haha. Most of them range from “How safe do you feel downtown?” to “I’m so jealous and I love the apartment!” haha. Living downtown is a big change for us but like I’ve said, so far it’s been pretty great.
I’m getting a little too obsessed with the coffee shop on the first floor of our apartment haha but other than that, it’s good. Our coffee shop downstairs also serves hand scooped ice cream….another fabulous perk that I need to forget about or the weight I’ve lost is going to come running back to my hips!
However, we are within a 2 minutes walk from the River Trail so I have no excuse for not walking and exercising with the puppies if I do consume a little too much coffee and ice cream.;) To be honest, walking around downtown and getting on the trail has been one of the top thoughts running through my head all week!
I love looking at the history downtown and I’ve been using that as motivation to get out there and walk too. Just like the name and date I found carved in one of the old sidewalks that read “Archie – 1920”, I’m still searching for more neat things like that downtown. I’m sure I’ll find them.
I can’t promise that I’m not going to blow the blog up with 10000 photos from downtown now haha.
I love anything and everything that has to do with history, sooo living in a 115+ year old building in the middle of 200+ years worth of downtown is perfect for me.
So today I’m going to embrace more history and share this Honey Cornflake Candy that is slightly adapted from the Old Fashioned Southern Cornflake candy that most people in the South know and love!
Also, take a look at that photo up there of the cornflakes in that green mixing bowl. That bowl right there is another fantastic piece of history! It’s an old Fire King Jadeite “Depression Era” Mixing Bowl that use to belong to my great-grandmother. Oh my word, if this mixing bowl could talk!
This Honey Cornflake Candy is a tad bit different from the corn syrup filled Cornflake Candies that many may be use to. I changed it up a bit and these cornflake candies have a crunchy peanut butter and a sweet honey twist!
