I saw these super cute Hot Chocolate Bombs on a video that my friend Mary posted on Facebook and I knew that I had to make them! I was surprised at how easy they were and I can’t wait to make more for friends and family!
Ps…. did you see the Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs that I made? I LOVE THEM!
What you’ll need to make Hot Chocolate Bombs:
- Chocolate Candy Melts or Chocolate Almond Bark
- hot chocolate mix powder
- dehydrated mini marshmallows or regular mini marshmallows
- white candy melts (optional)
- Large Silicone Mold of half spheres
I use these candy melts because they’re easy to melt but you can also use almond bark or regular chocolate chips.
Also, this is a giant can of Swiss Miss that we normally have around the house because I’m addicted to hot chocolate however, the small cans and even the envelopes will work great for this.
If you decide to use marshmallows in your Hot Chocolate Bombs, these tiny little marshmallow bits are perfect and they’re just like the ones that one in the packets of hot chocolate. You can buy a smaller bottle of these at the grocery store, normally in the hot chocolate section or the ice cream section.
You’ll also need a silicone mold like this to make the Hot Chocolate Bombs. This pack that I bought came with 3 different sizes and I use the largest one to make Hot Chocolate Bombs but you could also make smaller ones.
How to make Hot Chocolate Bombs:
Melt chocolate candy melts according to package directions. I melt them in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals until melted.
Using a spoon, fill each cavity of the mold with some of the melted chocolate.
Use the back of the spoon and spread the chocolate around the center and bottom of the mold. We’re just creating a shell here so the center does not need to be filled.
Make sure that the sides and bottom are coasted well.
Let the chocolate sit for about 15 minutes for it to harden.
Save extra chocolate to glue half circles together later. You may need to carefully reheat this when it’s time to use it.
Carefully turn silicone mold over onto a flat surface and pop chocolate out of mold.
Each hot chocolate bomb will need two half circles.
FOR HOT CHOCOLATE BOMB:
Fill 1 chocolate 1/2 circle with 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix and 1 tablespoon of marshmallows.
Top with a hollow chocolate 1/2 circle and use the extra melted left over chocolate and a butter knife to “”glue” the two pieces together.
Let sit about 5 minutes to harden.
Hot Chocolate Bombs are now ready!
To Add White Chocolate Drizzle:
Just melt a but of white chocolate, white candy melts, or white almond bark in the microwave.
Then use a piping bag or a fork to drizzle melted chocolate over Hot Chocolate Bombs.
You could also top these with crushed peppermints or more mini marshmallows.
TO USE HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS:
Add 1 hot chocolate bomb to a mug and pour hot milk over it.
Stir and enjoy.
I just love these! I think they are so easy to make and I think that these would be the cutest little Christmas gifts.
Ps. I personally love to add extra marshmallows to mine haha.

About how much heated milk do you use to make a good hot cocoa? Is one bomb too much chocolate for just one mug or is it about right?
1 hot chocolate bomb is perfect for about 16 or so ounces of hot milk 🙂
