I love easy shortcuts like store-bought puff pastry but sometimes I just forget to add it to my grocery list and wind up half way through a recipe before I realize that I did in fact use my last box of frozen puff pastry! That is where this recipe comes in handy.
15-20 minutes plus a few ingredients that I always have on hand equals homemade puff pastry that I can use for any of my favorite recipes.

How to make Homemade Puff Pastry:

In a mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt.

Chop the COLD butter in the small pieces. – PRO TIP – Use a box grater to grate cold butter to get even pieces into the dough.

Add cold butter into the flour. Cut the butter into the the flour with a pastry cutter or a mixing paddle. You can also use your fingers or a fork if you need to.

Add water and mix until dough is formed.

Plop dough onto a floured surface.

Knead the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.

Fold into thirds and roll out again, repeat 3-4 times to create layers.

Wrap and freeze or use right away for your favorite recipe.

I keep a few sticks of butter in the freezer for making biscuits and puff pastry. You want the butter to be SUPER cold! If you don’t normally keep butter in the freezer, just pop a stick into the freezer for about 30 minutes or so before making this recipe.

- 10 tablespoons of cold butter
- 1/2 cup of ice water
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt.

- Add water and mix
- On a floured surface, knead the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Fold into thirds and roll out again, repeat 3-4 times
