Southern green beans are so good! While I normally love to cook Stove Top Southern Green Beans or Slow Cooker Southern Style Green Beans, I recently decided to give the Instant Pot a try to cook southern green beans and I fell in LOVE!
Normally it takes hours for southern green beans to cook down and soak in the flavors but with this Instant Pot recipe, they cook in about 45 minutes and still have the amazing flavor that comes with the normally long cook time. I was hesitant at first, but the flavor is fantastic!

How to make Instant Pot Southern Green Beans:
- Let the Instant Pot get hot
Select the Sauté Button.
Let pot of Instant Pot get super hot. - Cut Bacon into pieces and cook
Cut bacon into 1 inch pieces and add to Instant Pot.
Add the bacon and cook until crispy. - Clean and Snap green beans
While bacon is cooking, wash the green beans and snap the ends off of the green beans. Toss out the green bean ends.
- Add ingredients and stir
Turn instant pot off.
Add water, Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base, onion powder, onion powder and seasoning salt, Stir well.
Add green beans to pot and stir. - Cook on High Pressure
Close instant pot lid and set pressure to high for 10 minutes.
- Release Pressure
Once cooked, let natural release for 10 minutes and then manual release.
Carefully open lid after pressure is released and enjoy.

Rinse green beans off to remove any dirt. Snap pointy ends off of green beans and toss them in the trash or compost bin. If green beans are extra long you can snap them in half too before cooking.

- 10 slices bacon
- 2 pounds fresh green beans
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
Instructions
- Select the Sauté Button.
- Let pot of Instant Pot get super hot.
- Cut bacon into 1 inch pieces and add to Instant Pot.
- Add the bacon and cook until crispy.
- While bacon is cooking, wash the green beans and snap the ends off of the green beans. Toss out the green bean ends.
- Turn instant pot off.
- Add water, Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base, onion powder, onion powder and seasoning salt, Stir well.

Notes
If you don't have or can't find Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base you can also dissolve a cube of chicken bouillon into 2 cups of hot water and use that in place of the Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base and water.
