In reply to Katherine Goodman. My husband is allergic to onions so that's why I don't use them. When I made this I was using the chicken for something else so I didn't have any celery or carrots and was just showing the method that you can make it without vegetables. (Normally because I'm making it to freeze shredded chicken for other meals) Soooooo you can use vegetables or you can use foil. I use foil because that's how I make it.

I use a similar recipe but without the aluminum foil balls. Why waste the drippings? Instead I make a bed of onions, celery and carrots then they can be used for making a broth. Yummy!
