Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie @BigBearsWife

I was never really a pie lover, until recently. (Recently as in the last 2 or 3 years)

Really up until I started making apple crumble pies after I got married, the only pie I ever ate was chocolate pie. You know the kind with the graham cracker crust and 2 inches of meringue on top.  That was “pie” to me.  Oh… and Chicken Pot Pie… that was pie to me too. But those where really the only two things I thought of when I thought of Pie.  “Pies” were desserts that little old ladies brought to church functions, not something I wanted to make.

But after a few years of being in the kitchen and a little practice in the pie making department, I’m starting to think that maybe I was wrong about pies. I mean if you really think about it, pies are not as huge and thick like cake with tons of icing, but not small like a cookie, almost the perfect dessert size.
Well… the slice anyways. Eating a whole pie would not be “the perfect dessert size” Unless you made personal mini pies…. Ok sorry went off into a little ramble there.

So, back to the pies…. They can be any flavor. They can be sweet or savory. If you think about it, you can pretty much make anything/any flavor combination into a pie.  I love to make those apple crumble pies, homemade pumpkin pies, chicken pot pies, chocolate pies, banana pies, the list could go on!

Last week for the weekly #SundaySupper that I participated in, we have a theme of comfort food. That sent me on day dream after day dream of southern comfort foods!  I don’t know how your brain works, but my brain works like this: “Oh, SundaySupper theme is comfort food, I love comfort food, oh mac and cheese, cheese, milk, gravy, oh I love sausage and gravy biscuits, I’m going to share sausage and gravy biscuits for Sunday supper, speaking of sundaysupper my pie dish for next sundaysupper post should be here soon, what should I make, ooo comfort food, southern food, nothing’s more southern than pecan pie, ooo I should make that, I should add these chocolate chips to it, oo that really sounds good, oh I’ve never made pecan pie…………”

Haha Yes, so that’s how that went. I did some recipe testing and now have an awesome Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie recipe to add to my recipe stash.

And since we’re talking about this Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie, let me take a second to show off this beautiful red pie dish! Is that not the prettiest pie dish ever! It goes perfectly with this Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie.
It’s one of the “Easy as Pie” pie dishes from Chantal.

They have a patented design on this pie plate, which makes it easy to bake the perfect pie! The interior ridges on the pie dish holds the dough in place to make an uniformed, perfect crust and the raised rim on the outside of the dish makes it super easy to trim excess dough away.

Chantal sent 20 bloggers from the #SundaySupper group, a beautiful pie dish! I was lucky enough to be one of those 20 bloggers picked and I am so happy about that! Thank you, Chantal!

This week we're also baking with a special cause in mind. #BakeForACure, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take some time this month or any month to bake something for someone that has been affected by cancer, or for someone that works in the medical field that makes a difference in the lives of cancer patients. It's true... a pie won't bring a cure. But a pie can bring a smile and brightne someones day while we're working towards a cure.

So, I want to know…. What is your favorite kind of pie? Do you make them at home? Also, who would you bake a pie for? Do you know anyone that's been affected by cancer?
