When hubby and I were in Roanoke we had a chance to visit chocolatepaper in the downtown area. My friend that works there suggested we check out Blues BBQ for lunch. Since we didn’t know anything about the downtown area we took her advice. I am so glad that we did!
Tucked in a corner of Market Street is a little place called Blues BBQ Company. Its a nice little place, with seating for about 50, and maybe 10 at the bar. Olden wooden accents with the old tavern feel.
We were greeting when entering and told to sit anywhere we’d like 🙂 Nice! I love being able to choose where I sit when I eat… I guess I’m just picky like that hahaha.
Our waiter came over and introduced himself (I was to intrigued by the atmosphere to catch his name, which I now regret because he was so nice) and proceeded to tell us a little about the features. Which all sounded wonderful!!
The menu was small but full of delicious looking meals (smaller menu means the cooks can take more time to perfect the dishes!)
I glace over our menu while the waiter grabs our sweet teas and OOOOO (please que some more singing angels please) there on the menu….. right there… i see FRIED PICKLES!! YES!
I don’t know if you have ever had fried pickles but I LOVE THEM! You NEED to try fried pickles at least once!
ON the Menu:
“FRIED PICKLES”
Oh yes, the classic southern treat. Only in the deep south could
a couple guys decide to fry a pickle, & MAN is it GOOD! $6.99
YES i’ll take 1000 orders……. ok so that’s what I wanted to say but I remember that I am with my wonderful husband who probably doesn’t want to rent a U-haul truck for 1000 orders of fried pickles to take home…. so I Order 1 serving.
They arrive….. beautiful!!! Remember people presentation is EVERYTHING when it comes to food. Even if you cook the best dish ever, if it doesn’t look good upon presentation then it will not nearly taste as good as it is suppose to! We all eat with our eyes before we even taste something.
Crispy brown coating and served on a bed of lettuce with a wonderful dipping sauce. When you cut into the pickle the coating stayed on the pickle (which doesn’t happen at most places). It was wonderful.
When it came time to order our lunch It was a really hard choice.
Thomas ordered the THE STAR CITY which was a pick two deal with choices of:
¼ Rack of Baby Back Ribs, ¼ BBQ Chicken, Slow Smoked
Brisket, Naked Pork, & Memphis Style Pork.
You also get to side to choose from!
For $17.99
Ok, 18 bucks for lunch might sound like a bit much BUT for the amount of food hubby got… and 18 bucks to feed Thomas.. I got a deal hahaha.
Anyways, Thomas choose the ¼ Rack of Baby Back Ribs and Memphis Style Pork with hush puppies and french fries.
I didn’t taste the other items but I did taste the Memphis Style Pork!
The Memphis Style Pork was amazing! The BBQ and The BBQ sauce just melted together in this wonderful combination. It wasn’t like BBQ I’d had before, someplaces you go you can tell that you’re getting dried out BBQ with sauce poured on top to make it moist.
BUT this BBQ and BBQ sauce just melted together! So good.
I had the Garlic and Mushroom Bisque and a side Salad with Ranch! (ok yeah I know… I was at a BBQ place and didn’t even order BBQ, but thats ok because hubby did so i just tasted his and still got to enjoy my Garlic and Mushroom Bisque.
My Garlic and Mushroom Bisque came in a cute little brown bowl, with my garden salad on the side. The salad look very fresh and green. Delicious looking.
The Bisque had bread/croutons on top and actually had huge slices of mushrooms in it!! Very good!
