How To Old Bay Shrimp Pasta:
-
To make the Old Bay shrimp pasta in under 30 minutes, preparation is key. Start by peeling and deveining a pound of fresh shrimp.
-
You can also use frozen shrimp for this recipe, you’ll just need to thaw the shrimp and peel it before starting the recipe.
-
In a large pot, melted 2 tablespoons butter on medium heat and add garlic. Heat garlic for 2-3 minutes.
-
Add diced tomatoes and 1/2 tablespoons Old Bay and stir.
-
Add heavy cream and 3.5 cups chicken broth and stir. Let mixture heat until it starts to simmer.
-
Add dry pasta and set timer for 10 minutes. YES! We’re cooking the pasta IN the tomato broth mixture. So no need to salted water or draining pasta!
-
Now, lets cook the shrimp while the pasta is cooking.
-
Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet. Add shrimp to skillet and sprinkle with some of the Old Bay.
-
Cook shrimp about 1-2 minutes per side, until shrimp is pink and curled into a “C”.
-
Remove cooked shrimp from pan and sit aside.
-
When 10 minute timer goes off, add remaining 1/2 cup chicken broth to pasta and cook 5 more minutes or until pasta is cooked and tender.*
-
Once the pasta is done, taste and season the pasta mixture with more Old Bay if flavor is needed.
Stir in cooked shrimp, toss and serve.
To serve your Old Bay shrimp pasta, start by portioning it into individual dishes. Garnish with additional parsley and a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning, if desired. The dish pairs well with a fresh green salad or a side of garlic bread.
Tips and Tricks
Now that you’re a pro at making Old Bay shrimp pasta in under 30 minutes, let’s go over some tips and tricks to make it even better.
Firstly, when cooking shrimp, make sure not to overcook it. Shrimp cooks quickly and can become rubbery if left on the heat for too long. As soon as the shrimp turns pink and starts to curl, it’s done.
As for the pasta, I love to use fusilli pasta for this recipe but I’ve also use rotini pasta. You could also try something like Penne or Farfalle pasta as well. I’m not sure if spaghetti would work but if you give it a try, let me know.
If the pasta isn’t tender when the 15 minute timer is over, add a but more chicken broth or water if you’re out of chicken broth and let simmer until pasta is done.
Reminder – this isn’t a heavy sauce type of pasta.
Reheating:
I think this pasta is best when eaten fresh but you can reheat it if you need to. I like to reheat it with a little bit of chicken broth. Shrimp, in my opinion, isn’t great when reheated but the pasta is good.
You can always cook up some more shrimp or other seafood (or even chicken) to serve with the leftovers.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
