Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, cleaned and ends snapped off
  • 4 cups chicken broth (vegetable broth)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 pound smoked pork jowl
  • 1 pork neck bone
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 3 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  • Clean the string beans by washing them room.
  • Snap the ends off the green beans and discard them.
  • Snap the longer green beans in half.
  • Add the green beans to the bowl of slow cooker.
  • Turn the slow cooker onto low.
  • Add in half of the pork jowl and all of the pork neck to the green beans.
  • Pour in the broth and water.
  • Add in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
  • Stir Well.
  • Cook for 6 hours on low.
  • At the 6 hour mark, add the other 1/2 of the diced pork jowl to skillet and cook for about 10 minutes. Pour the pork jowl and drippings into the green beans.
  • Cook on low for another 2 hours.
