My little boy and I were making Classic Gingerbread Men Cookies the other day and while I was scrolling through Pinterest trying to get some different ideas on how to decorate them, I saw these adorable Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies from Eating Richly that used an upside down gingerbread cookie cutter! Since I had a bunch of gingerbread men cookies to decorate, I thought that Jackson and I would give them a try and use what we had on hand to create some cute Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies!
We opted for black cookie icing that I had for the eyes instead of cutting chocolate chips for the eyes and I used my own cookie dough recipe but I did love the idea that she had!

Making Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies with a Gingerbread Man Cookie Cutter:
I love this idea of using a cute little gingerbread man cookie cutter to make these reindeer cookies! I use to own hundreds of different cookie cutters but now I love cookie cutters that can be used to make more than one cookie design.
To use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to make reindeer cookies, cut out and bake a Classic Gingerbread Men Cookie as you normally would and then just turn it upside down to decorate it!
What type of icing do I use to decorate Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies?
I like to use an icing that’s going to get hard as it drys when I decorate gingerbread men type cookies.
To decorate these Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies you can use Use this royal icing recipe (cut in half) or store bought white cookie icing & black cookie icing.
If I’m just making a few cookies with white outlines like these reindeer cookies or gingerbread men cookies, then I’ll normally go with store bought icing. If I’m making a ton of cookies then I make my own royal icing for the white icing.
For the Black cookie icing though, I almost ALWAYS use store bought black cookie icing. I don’t use a lot of black icing when I’m decorating cookies, so it just makes more sense to be to spend a few dollars on a tube of black cookie icing then to dry and use enough black food coloring to tint the white icing black and hope I don’t ruin the consistency and end up with runny gray icing.
Adding Reindeer Details to a Gingerbread Man Cookie:
Start off with the upside down gingerbread man cookie. The gingerbread man’s legs are going to be the reindeer antlers and the arms will be the reindeer ears.
Use white cookie icing to draw eyebrows, antlers (legs of the gingerbread man), eyes, outline the ears (arms of the gingerbread man) and draw a mouth.
Use the black cookie icing to add eye details and a dot of white icing in the eye to add a little sparkle.
Use cookie icing to “glue” red candy to reindeer face for the nose.
Let icing harden before stacking.
