Recipe At Bottom of Post
My mom was born in 1952 and she has 4 sisters and 1 brother. Her mom, my nana, was a stay at home mom/house wife and my Papa worked in construction/supervisor & a farmer. My mom says that they didn’t have a ton of money but they were ok. (They didn’t have an indoor bathroom until my mom went to kindergarten!)
So while my Nana and Papa did what they could to provide for the family and get Christmas gifts for all of the kids, one thing that my Nana did every year for the kids was make Christmas Shoe Boxes! My mom says that my nana filled them with candies, fruit and nuts for all of the kids. As the kids grew up the shoe boxes stopped BUT since my mom loved them so much my Nana made my mom a shoe box EVERY YEAR until my nana got too old and sick to make them for her.
So, I took over. I make my mom a shoebox every Christmas from her mom, even though Nana has been gone for 10 years now. My mom loves them.
So if you want to start a little tradition for someone in your life, here is what to do.

How to make Vintage Christmas Shoe Box Gift Idea:
So First, you’re going to need to find a shoe box. Wrap it in wrapping paper but wrap the bottom and top separate.
Then it’s time to fill the Christmas Shoe Box! I fill it differently each year but last year I happened to fill it with the following items…
Mini candy in the bottom with a M&M candy cane.
Then I added an orange and an apple to keep up the tradition on fruit that my nana did in the 50s.
I added her favorite candy bar and a snowman sugar cookie.
Then finished it up with a sweet little reindeer hot cocoa cone and a little Grandma ornament since my mom is a Nana to my little boy now. 🙂
Write a little note on the lid of the shoebox and close it up!
If you want to add a little bit more to the present you can add a gift card!
