The Yancey House
If you have never had the pleasure of eating at the Yancey House Restaurant in Yanceyville, North Carolina you are missing something in your life.
The Yancey House was once the home of Bartlett Yancey who built the Federal style 1.5-story frame house . It was built around 1815. His daughter added a 2-story frame Greek Revival addition in 1856 (dated chimney) which has vernacular interior trim attributed to famed local cabinetmaker Tom Day. The the family cemetery remains on site.
You can learn more about the history here: YANCEY HOUSE HISTORY
Now the Beautiful house has been turned into a Restaurant by Michael Willis and Lucindy Willis (Who by the way are some of the nicest people ever!)
Their Menu Changes with the seasons and with the farms produce in the area. The rooms are decorated with beautiful art work, and the setting really makes you feel transported back in time. Not to mention Lucindy is the most amazing cook! I would spend my entire paycheck on one bowl of her Jack Daniels Bread Pudding!!
We first went to the Yancey House for lunch with my husband’s grandmother, and I fell in love! I had seen this house from the road for years, wanted to go inside, check the place out…..oh it was history, an old plantation house… my passion and dream…..and what do you know they turn it into a place to eat and voila; I get to step foot into this beautiful plantation house.
Our Second venture to the Yancey House was for Josh and Melody Barrett’s Wedding rehearsal dinner. Beautiful, amazing, elegant, pure bliss. They did an amazing job with the rehearsal dinner! Any bride would have gleamed with excitement.
Then We were living in Jacksonville, NC….. 4 hours away from this beautiful place….. shame…. BUT as fate would have it, we moved back and there stood my beautiful restaurant, looking fabulous as ever.
This year Thomas and I went to the Yancey House for our Yearly Christmas Dinner Date hee hee…. which happened to be at lunch time this year…. but whatever haha. We enjoyed the fried oysters which is a dish of half dozen oysters served with cocktail or remoulade sauce. Amazing!! Thomas had the grilled buck head sirloin steak topped with tobacco onion haystack and I enjoyed the 18 hour brisket with gravy, yukon gold mashed potatoes, and coleslaw. Heaven I tell you. Finished with the Pièce de résistance : The Jack Daniels Bread Pudding!
After lunch we walked around a bit outside, I wish we had walked around more, but with snow on the ground it was pretty cold hahaha. We will walk around the grounds more when the weather is warmer.
Also the paintings and Artwork on the walls at the Yancey House are for sell as well! So you can check those out as well!.
Anyways, Check it out. You Will Love it! We do and I can not wait until our next visit (which will be on our wedding anniversary in February haha, I demand it hahaha)
