How to make Broken Glass Cake:

  1. Make red Jell-O

In a medium bowl, whisk together Strawberry Jell-O gelatin and 1 1/4 cup boiling water.

Whisk for 3 minutes or until dissolved.

Pour into loaf pan or pie dish. You want it to be deep enough to make a sheet of Jell-O that you can cut into cubes once it is firm.

Chill 4 hours or until firm.

Don’t follow the recipe on the box – we need this Jell-O to be thicker so that we can cube it for the dessert!

  2. Make Green Jell-O

Repeat same process for Lime Lime Jell-O.

  3. Make Crust

Once Jell-O is firm, start on crust.
Follow directions in recipe for making the Vanilla Wafer crust and press into a casserole dish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is broken glass cake?

This vintage dessert is made up of squares of red and green Jell-O folded into a pineapple whipped topping gelatin. The dessert is then chilled and sliced into squares before being served.

Can I make a graham cracker crust instead of Vanilla wafers?

You sure can! I just like the flavor of the vanilla wafers in this crust.
