Cookie Dough is up there in the top 10 foods that I love. If you love cookie dough as much as I do, then you’re going to want to print out this recipe and keep it in a safe spot!
Not only is this frosting amazingly tasty but it’s perfect for cupcakes, macarons and brownies! Plus if you really want to, you can make this Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Frosting as a dessert dip for a dessert party! Hello Chocolate Chip cookie dough dip and graham crackers!
What you’ll need for this Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Frosting: (amounts below in recipe)
- unsalted butter
- dark brown sugar
- vanilla extract
- powdered sugar
- milk
- mini chocolate chips
To make cookie dough frosting:
In a small saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together. Whisk until brown sugar dissolves into butter, then remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.
Add cooled butter and sugar mixture to bowl of electric mixer.
Mix in powdered sugar. Whip in milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
Stir in mini chocolate chips.
The recipe as written will make about 2 cups of frosting. Depending on how much you’re piping onto the cupcakes, you should be able to frost 8-10 cupcakes or fill 24 macarons.
I used this frosting to fill some Chocolate Chip Macarons and it was cookie dough perfection! It’s also super fantastic on chocolate cupcakes but them again I love chocolate cupcakes. haha
A tip for piping this frosting:
Since this frosting does have mini chocolate chips whipped into it, you need to make sure that when you bagged this up to pipe it onto cupcakes and brownies or to fill macarons that you are using a piping tip that’s big enough for the frosting to pass through. Nothing is worse than loading a piping bag full of frosting only for chocolate chips to clog up the piping tip because it’s too small for them to pass through when you’re trying to frost a dessert.
So when I use this frosting, I normally stick to a large star tip. I just really love giant star tips for piping frosting onto cupcakes but you would also use a wide tip like a 1A Round Decorating Tip.
To be honest though, you could smear this onto a cupcake or brownie with a knife and it would still be one of the best things ever.
Oh and one more tip, if you’re using this frosting to fill macarons, don’t press down too much when sandwiching them together. This is a thick frosting and macarons are mighty delicate. So you’ll want to fill and immediately, lightly sandwich them together
