While I love a good shortcut when it comes to baking, Homemade Blueberry Cream Cheese Danishes from scratch are 100% worth it! They’re filled with a cream cheese filling and topped with fresh summer blueberries!
“This recipe was created for #SummerDessertWeek! I was sent samples by some of the sponsor companies but as always opinions are 100% mine.”
Cream cheese danishes have been a favorite of mine since I worked at the coffee shop years ago. I would stop for my breaks when I worked there, cash in on one of my free coffees of the day and sit down to savor one of the super tasty cream cheese danishes before clocking back in for the rest of my shift.
It’s been years since then, I don’t get to enjoy them like I use to but they still hold a special place in my heart.
So I thought they would be kinda perfect to share with y’all for my last recipe for #SummerDessertWeek! This week has flown by and I hope that y’all have been loving all of the recipes that we’ve been sharing with y’all.
Now let’s get onto these danishes! The Cream Cheese Danish that I fell in love with didn’t have blueberries but I’m crazy about blueberries this time of year, so I just had to add them!
I’ve got the recipe down below for y’all but I wanted to toss in some step by step photos to show y’all how I like to roll these danishes.
- Cut 1-inch strips that are 15 inches long. You should get about 10 strips.
- On a parchment, or silicone sheet lined baking sheet, start wrapping the dough into danishes. (You can wrap them on a cutting board and then transfer them too)
- To wrap the, press the end of one of the dough strips to the pan. wrap 1-2 inches of the dough around the end and press the dough down to create a flat middle for the filling.
- Loosely twist the dough and wrap around the center to create the danish.
- Repeat until all are done, place danishes about 1 inch apart on a large baking sheet or 2 smaller baking pans.
After the first rest, make the filling and fill each danish.
Add blueberries to each danish. I added 8 but you can add more if you’d like because they do spread out when they bake.
- Cover them with plastic and let rest for 30 minutes.
- Remove plastic.
Oh I think they’re just so pretty!
Brush them with a bit of egg wash and bake for 20 minutes! Keep an eye on them though! Don’t let them burn!
Remove from oven and let cool completely. When they come out of the oven, they will be super puffy, both the danish and the cream cheese filling but as they cool they will fall back down like they should be!!
Making a bit of icing and drizzle the icing over the cooled danishes!

Homemade Blueberry Cream Cheese Danishes
While I love a good shortcut when it comes to baking, Homemade Blueberry Cream Cheese Danishes from scratch are 100% worth it! They're filled with a cream cheese filling and topped with fresh summer blueberries! In a small bowl, pour the yeast into the warm milk and stir to combine. Let sit for 5-10 minutes. While waiting, combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk together. Add the very cold butter cubes and use your fingers or pastry cutter to cut butter into the dry ingredients. Cut it into the flour until the flour and butter is the size of small peas. Whisk the egg yolks into the yeast mixture. Once combined, add it all to the flour mixture. Stir this mixture with a wooden spoon just until it forms a sticky dough. Once it 's mixed, cover it with plastic wrap and chill the dough for at least 2 hours. After 2 hours, dump the chilled dough onto a floured surface and roll the dough into a large rectangle. The rectangle should be about 10 inches by 15 inches. Fold the dough in thirds, bringing the right side into the middle and then the left side into the middle to meet. Roll it out again. Fold and roll 2 more times. Fold the dough in thirds again and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. (the dough can stay in the fridge for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month) Preheat oven to 400F. Cut 1-inch strips that are 15 inches long. You should get about 10 strips. On a parchment or silicone sheet lined baking sheet, start wrapping the dough into danishes. To wrap the, press the end of one of the dough strips to the pan. wrap 1-2 inches of the dough around the end and press the dough down to create a flat middle for the filling. Loosely twist the dough and wrap around the center to create the danish. *Step by step photos are in the blog post* Repeat until all are done, place danishes about 1 inch apart on a large baking sheet or 2 smaller baking pans. Cover them with plastic and let rest for 30 minutes. Making the filling In a bowl with an electric mixer or a stand mixer, combine the softened cream cheese and white sugar. Mix until combined. Mix in the egg yolk. Mix in the vanilla extract. Mix until very smooth. Remove the plastic from the dough. Place a spoonful of filling into the center of each danish. Place 8 blueberries into the cream cheese filling. Cover them with plastic and let rest for 30 minutes. Remove plastic. Brush pastry with a bit of egg wash. Bake danishes for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely. When they come out of the oven, they will be super puffy, both the danish and the cream cheese filling but as they cool they will fall back down like they should be. It’s hard to pick just one, but I love fresh fruit tarts with pastry cream – it’s fun playing around with the pastry cream flavors! Another favorite would be blackberry pie! The #SummerDessertWeek recipes I’d love to try would be this blueberry cream cheese danish one, & the blackberry bread pudding from Eat Move Make!

Can these be frozen, if so should they be thawed before bakimg OR should the dough only be frozen then thaw, add the gummies and bake?
Angie says
When I worked at Starbucks the cream cheese danishes there came to the store already baked and frozen and they just thawed them out before putting them up for sale. It worked great for those but I haven’t tried freezing these homemade ones yet. The dough though can be frozen for up to a month after it’s made. So you could make the dough and freeze it and then thaw it in the fridge to make these one morning. What gummies do you mean?

I love your recipes! I’m gonna make the valentine stack cookies with the “treats” inside later this week.
