{ Homemade Potato Chips }
One of our local restaurants makes the best “Floppy” Homemade Chips ever! I love them! .. plus they have homemade ranch to go with them! Yum!
I’ve made homemade chips at home before, they are pretty easy. I would use a crinkle cutter knife and cut the potatoes into chips, season them and then bake them. They were good, but I couldn’t get the thin “floppy” homemade chip that I wanted.. Until I stared selling pampered chef and lo and behold in my starter kit there was an Ultimate Mandoline.
I will admit that when I first opened the Ultimate Mandoline, I wasn’t impressed. It looked like to much work for slicing veggies.
My husband was trying it out and had the best idea ever! “Honey we can use this to slice potatoes into the homemade floppy chips that you like so much!” One of those moments where I was smacking myself in the head for not thinking of that on my own haha
So there was the beginning of my love of making Homemade Potato Chips!
What you need:
Baking Potatoes (amount depends on how many chips you’re planning to make, but with using a mandoline they are cut so thin that you can get a lot out of one potato)
Sea Salt
Black Pepper
Oil for frying
What to do:
Using a Mandoline slice the potatoes into chips. Once they are all sliced, heat your oil in a deep skillet. I don’t have a thermometer for my oil so I test it by dropping a chip into the oil, if it started to sizzle I know the oil is hot enough.
I fry about 10 chips at a time. Depending on the size of your skillet you may be able to do more. Just make sure not to over crowd the oil.
I fry them for about 3-4 minutes until some of the chips start to get crispy and brown and some are still “floppy”.
I use a slotted spoon to remove the chips and place them on a paper towel, I then sprinkle them with salt and pepper while they are hot and move onto my next batch.
Repeat the step until all the chips are done.
And there you have it, delicious, easy homemade chips!
