This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Lean Cuisine, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #HonestlyGood #ad http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.
Yes, I know it’s still October and I know that I’m still in the middle of my October Challenge. Don’t worry. I’m on my 22nd day in the challenge. I’m not giving up yet! I’m down 12 pounds as of yesterday!!
But why are you posting a review on “boxed meals”, those are on the no-no list! Yes, you are correct. But, I must say that I was asked to review these meals before I decided to start this challenge and after checking them out and reading their labels I have to say that I’m really impressed with them and didn’t mind trying a few out so that I could give you my opinion on them.
BigBear and I headed to Target the other night to check out their selection and grab a few of these Honestly Good Lean Cuisine Meals to review. Lean Cuisine has a whole NEW collection of Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals that includes six varieties. They’re packed with 100% all natural ingredients. The new Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals are: Honey Citrus Chicken, Lemongrass Salmon, Pineapple Black Pepper Beef, Plum Ginger Grain-Crusted Fish, Pomegranate Chicken, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken.
We picked out the Pomegranate Chicken, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken and Lemongrass Salmon to try!
When’s the last time that you had a “frozen meal” that was good and good for you? Probably never (well, unless you made said meal and froze it, those don’t count here!) I’m talking about frozen meals in the freezer section of your local store. Have you had any of those lately that were good and good for you? I’ll be honest, most of those frozen meals taste like cardboard and they’ve got an ingredients list a mile long of stuff that I can’t even begin to try and pronounce.
However when I flipped over the Roasted Red Pepper Chicken Honestly Good Lean Cuisine Meal I was met with real food, natural ingredients that didn’t require Google to analysis. The entire list was made up of foods that I love and eat on my challenge. Broccoli, Grilled Chicken, Roasted Garlic, Olive Oil, etc.
The first meal that I tried was the one I mentioned above, the Roasted Red Pepper Chicken. The sauce for the meal is packaged separate, so you have the choice to add it or not. However with the sauce ingredients list broke down on the label, I decided to have the sauce with mine.
Big Bear even tried a bit that didn’t have red pepper on it. The pasta had a nice bite and the sauce was pretty good as well. The broccoli was just steamed broccoli so of course it was good and “clean”. The chicken wasn’t dry at all. I’m use to chicken in these frozen meals being dry as a bone but was happily surprised when the chicken wasn’t dry!
The portion was perfect for me. I’ve been working a lot on my portions this month and this was the same amount that I’ve been aiming towards this month.
For lunch yesterday, I had the Pomegranate Chicken Honestly Good Lean Cuisine Meal. This was my real test. Would I still be hungry after lunch? Would I feel yucky after lunch? I’m happy to announce that I stayed full until dinner, didn’t feel awful and sluggish and I loved the Pomegranate Chicken.
Fixing dinners on this challenge has been rough, making sure to have enough for lunch has been even rougher. Sometimes there just aren’t enough leftovers for a decent lunch. That’s where my Honestly Good Lean Cuisine Meal came in to play yesterday.
I didn’t have leftovers from dinner the night before so I packed one of these meals for lunch. I also brought along the Lemongrass Salmon for my dad to have for his lunch at the office. He really enjoyed it!
He’s always eating frozen meals for lunch but he’s been working on eating better too, so I knew he’d like to give these a try!
My dad has always told me that if you take the meals out of the box and plated them that they wouldn’t seem like “frozen boxed meals” so that’s what I did when I was reviewing these.
I took them out of the boxes and out of the trays and plated them as a regular meal. Presentation is everything, isn’t it!?
Here is the back of the meal that I had for lunch today. Not bad at all, in my opinion. While I won’t be eating boxed meals for every lunch after my challenge is over, I will probably be having one in place of left over lunches once or twice a week. I love knowing that there are option out there like this that I can keep in the freezer at work to have to lunch on days that I’m swamped or when I didn’t have time to pack a lunch or didn’t have left overs to pack.
I kinda wish that I still had some of that Roasted Red Pepper Chicken pasta now!
Oh and did you know that Lean Cuisine and their Farmers are donating a portion of the vegetables grown for Honestly Good Lean Cuisine Meals to local communities! How awesome is that!
