I fell in love with marshmallow spiderwebs on cakes and cupcakes years ago but I just always assumed that they were much more complicated than I wanted to tackle for a cupcake. However, I was wrong! Yes, they take just a little bit of time and thought but they’re not as crazy hard as I thought they were going to be.
I loved the chocolate frosting so that the white spiderwebs would show up well but white frosting would be great. I used a few plastic spiders for photos but you don’t have to top them with spiders. I just think they look awesome with them!
What you’ll need to make Marshmallow Spider Web Cupcake:
-
Chocolate Cupcakes (recipe below)
FOR THE FROSTING:
- butter
- cocoa
- powdered sugar
- milk
- vanilla
SPIDERWEBS:
- Marshmallows
- water
TO ASSEMBLE THESE CUPCAKES:
Place frosted cupcakes into the fridge for about 10 minutes to chill the frosting.
Melt marshmallows and water in microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir/heat until melted.
Use your fingers to carefully pick up a bit of the melted marshmallow and spread it apart to form a spider web. Carefully pull it and wrap it around the chilled icing and cupcake.
Cupcake frosting must be chilled to be able to wrap marshmallow web. If it’s not chilled the marshmallow web will cut through the soft frosting instead of wrapping over it.
NOTES
Cupcake frosting must be chilled to be able to wrap marshmallow web.
I tried to just use melted marshmallow for the webs but found that it was much easier to make the spider webs with a bit of water mixed with the melted marshmallow.
