Steak and Saimin
🙂
Anne from the 808 state is back with another Hawaiian Foodie Review 🙂
Welcome back to the 808! Honolulu offers a variety of cheap, delicious foods (best served in a take out box or from a lunch truck) On the corner of Alakea (ah-lah-kay-ah) Street and King Street is the best $6.00 steak meal you will ever eat.
Rave Steaks is right on the corner facing mauka (towards the mountain) their menu is huge and offers everything from burger and fries to local treats like loco moco (more on that at a later date). But the best $6.55 (includes tax) I have ever spent is on the Steak & Saimin plate.
For those that have never tried saimin, it is basically like ramen noodles (but so much better when they are fresh and not dried in a tiny package) with fishcake, cabbage, spam pieces (yes, what you have heard is true, Hawaii is the spam capitol…we love it) and green onions and a fresh cooked, cut piece of steak. It is amazing!
Of, course if you prefer not to have noodles you can get 2 scoops white or brown rice, mac or tossed salad. They also have combos, steak and shrimp, chicken or fish (might I recommend the mahi mahi with sweet chili sauce).
Stay tuned for more off the tourist grid cheap grinds and Alohas!
