YAY, Sausage Gravy and Biscuits! One of the few things that can get me out of the bed in like 5 seconds on the weekends. My grandpa use to make Sausage Gravy and Biscuits all the time when I was younger. My brother use to say “Papa, you need to bottle that Sausage Gravy up and sell it!”
He never did bottle it up and sell it but we did get to enjoy almost every time we went up to Nana and Papa’s to spend the night. I wish I had been into collecting recipes when he was around, because his recipe for this would have been an amazing one to get him to put on paper.
When BigBear and I got married, we’d visit home on the weekends once in a while and normally made a stop at his parent’s house for breakfast. The first time my father in law made Sausage Gravy and Biscuits I was in heaven. It took me straight back to my grandpa’s kitchen.
From that point on, anytime we had plans to head to their house for breakfast, before BigBear could even ask, his dad would say, “….and yes, Sausage Gravy and Biscuits for Angie.” 🙂
After a little while of practicing, BigBear has mastered this amazing southern recipe!
Well at least I think he has! When I told him that he finally had gotten it to be just like his dad’s, he smiled and knew he had it perfect. 🙂 This is probably my #1 comfort food when it comes to breakfast. But it is a special treat, personally I would eat it everyday………. but since hubby makes it, I only get it on the weekends and then, it’s still like random. I should make it a mandatory Sunday morning breakfast! haha

Excellent recipe! Made it tonight and modified my 1% milk by adding some heavy cream I had on hand. The recipe doesn’t clarify whether the fat rendered out of the sausage is drained out or kept in. With the butter being added I opted to drain out most of the fat. It turned out beautifully creamy and flavorful! Will keep this recipe as my go-to for a comfort breakfast, or dinner like tonight!

I’ve always wanted a better gravy recipe than the one I grew up knowing which was just cook sausage and when done add milk and flour lol. This recipe is a favorite! I am making it right now for Levi 🙂

Sausage gravy and biscuits is one of my favorite things, but I’d never tried to make it before. I don’t have the gift for gravy, generally, so I wasn’t sure I’d do well. But, this recipe was easy and came out delicious. This will be a breakfast go-to (at least once in a while…I ate about 3/4 of the batch I made today).

YAY! So glad that you liked it. It’s one of our favorites on the weekends.

Do you drain them at ?
Angie says
Drain what?
The sausage? We don’t, that’s what we mix to make the gravy. Unless there is like some huge excess amount of gravy, we leave it in there. I’m guessing you were asking about the sausage haha

You can’t imagine how happy you have made me with this recipe!
I am Spanish, and more than ten years ago I read a novel that made me dream of visiting North Carolina one day, not only for its landscapes … but for its food!
And the one I fell most in love with was the biscuits with sausage sauce … and now I’ve finally found it.
Thank you so much!!

Thank you for the easy to follow recipe. It was fantastic, the kids love it and suggested I make it every morning lol. We have a relatively local country store / butcher that makes their own sausage which we love so that gives us a good start. I started in an iron skillet but it looked like adding 3 cups of milk might make it difficult to stir so transferred to a Dutch oven. I did end up using about 5 Tbs of flour.
Thanks! Mike

This was SOOOOO good! I measured the flour and milk with my heart after the initial added ingredients lol I used 2 lbs of sausage and added in an extra 2 cups of milk and my gravy was SUUUPPPERR meaty. Delicious!! But thick and meaty. (Not a bad thing) But next time I will use less sausage or more milk and what not. This was my first time making it home made. It was soooo darn good though. This will be a staple with us for SURE! ❤️????????
