My husband is a “meat and potato” kind of guy. He always has been and always will be. (even though over the past 6 years I’ve gotten him to eat salads, broccoli and asparagus and like it!) When he gets a dinner plate full of tender grilled steak and a loaded baked potato, his eyes light up like a 4th of July firework show.
We’ve pulled the grills out and have dusted off the patio furniture because warm weather is here and we’re ready to get outside and grill! We have a fabulous patio/deck now so I’m all about outside gatherings!
Last weekend we had a little “steak-grill off” with my dad to show off the new USDA Choice Premium Beef Steaks that are available at Walmart. (We’ll it was more of dad and Thomas grilling)
They each picked out their steaks and worked on their recipes. (They used two recipes from their co-workers for the grill-off and modified them a little) The next afternoon we sat the table and the men took to the grill.
The first (dads) is ready for the grill…

The rest of us were the taste testers. And the winner?
But only by a tiny bit. Both steaks were super good. Thomas’ was just cook a little less and dad’s was a little too spicy. But the steaks themselves were delicious! By far some of the best steaks we’ve had in a while. Dad was very impressed and was glad to see USDA Choice steaks at Walmart. He loves to buy USDA Choice steaks but it’s normally hard to find them!I can’t wait until we have another cookout!
For Dad’s Steak he seasoned both sides with Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning. He marinated it in soy sauce and Worcestershire for about 2 hours and then cooked it on a pre-heated grill for about 5-6 minutes per side.
For Thomas’ Steak he seasoned both sides with salt and pepper, and marinated it for 6 hours. He cooked the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side on a pre-heated grill.
Both steaks were fantastic. No need for steak sauce either 🙂
I will have the recipe for the winning steak on the blog later this week.
