Sorry that it took so long to get this onto the blog! This week I’m in the process of making about 250 cookies for my god-daughter’s 1st Birthday party that’s this weekend so I’ve been elbow deep in flour sugar and butter every night after work this week. She’s going to be having a “Cookie and Milk” themed party and it’s going to be ridiculously cute! And before that……… well I’m not going to bore you with how crazy it’s been. Let’s just say I love to punish myself by taking on WAY too many projects!

But back to the Candy Cane Christmas Deco Mesh Wreath Tutorial! I got such a great response from the Halloween Deco Mesh Tutorial that I wanted to share the Candy Cane Wreath I made for our door.

I went with the Candy Cane theme on our tree so this wreath just HAD to be made 🙂

Here’s how it’s done:

For this Candy Cane Wreath I used:

1 Work Wreath Form (22 or 24 inch), store bought or homemade (click here to learn how to make one)
20 – Pipe Cleaners (for the wreath from ^)
1 ( 21″ x 10 yards) White Glittery Deco Mesh Roll – From Hobby Lobby
1 (5 1/2″ x 10 yards) Red and White Candy Cane Colored Deco Mesh Ribbon Roll – From Hobby Lobby
1 long strand of red beads (kind of like Mardi Gras beads – From Hobby Lobby
A variety of Christmas “picks” – From Hobby Lobby

**You’ll also need a glue gun**

Directions: (If you need photo step by step, I have a tutorial HERE for my Halloween Wreath)

First, you’ll need to make a Work Wreath Form (unless you’ve bought one pre-made). I have a tutorial on making that here.

Lay out all of your deco mesh and picks (or anything else you want to add into your wreath).

I find it best to make these on a table instead of the floor only because bending over on the floor kills my back haha 😉

Start with your work wreath on a flat surface.

Un-wrap the large tube of white deco mesh. (Don’t unroll it just unwrap it) I normally let my deco mesh roll hand off of the edge of the table to get it out of the way.

Gather the end of the deco mesh roll. Take the end of the deco mesh and place it into the center of one of the pipe cleaners on the inside ring of the work wreath.

Twist the pipe cleaner around the mesh to hold it in place.

Move down the deco mesh a few inches and bunch it together again.

Secure onto the next section of the wire wreath with a pipe cleaner twist. (Work along the inner circle first)
Continue this pattern all the way around the inside ring of the work wreath.

Once you’ve completed the entire inner circle and get back to the starting point, start with the pipe cleaners directly above the “starting point” pipe cleaner on the outer ring.

Now do the same process around the outer circle, making sure to bunch and twist deco mesh into each pipe cleaner. Fluffy the deco mesh as you go.

An entire roll of deco mesh will cover the inside and outside rings of the work wreath. When you run out of Deco Mesh, twist the last bit into the last pipe cleaner.

The base color is complete!

Next, take your second, small roll of deco mesh ribbon. Starting on the inner circle, add the green deco mesh into one of the pipe cleaner. Twist to hold.

Now, just like with the larger base color, work around the wreath with the red and white candy cane deco mesh.

Bunching some together, moving to the next pipe cleaner, placing the deco mesh and then twisting to secure it. Do this for the inner and outer circles just like the white deco mesh.

For the Red Beads, you’ll to the same thing as with the Deco Mesh (except there is not bunching). Just weave the beads throughout the wreath, using the pipe cleaners to secure the strand.

Now your wreath base is finished as far as the deco mesh is concerned. But you’ll need to hid all of those pipe cleaners.

Flip the wreath over so that you can see the wire base.

Workaround the wreath, pull the pipe cleaners to the back of the wreath.

Twist them onto the wire base.

This will create a clean look as well as help pull the deco mesh towards the center of the wreath!

Flip your wreath over and fluff the deco mesh!

Now it’s time to add things to the wreath. Position your items into you wreath, make adjustments and then use a hot glue gun to carefully glue these items into place.

They fit perfect with my decoration theme for this year!

It’s so easy to find color picks to go along with ANY theme.

I’ve even seen people use those ^ for 4th of July Firework wreaths!
