We got out first snow of the season this past weekend! The trees and ground are covered in bright white, fluffy snow but the roads are mostly clear, that’s the kind of snow that I love.
Our fire place is burning, the Christmas tree is burning brightly in the living room and we’re all snuggled up on the couch! We’ve got hot chocolate in hand and our entire place smells like the Holidays thanks to this Christmas Stove Top Potpourri.
You can make this in a little slow cooker too but I normally just toss mine into a small sauce pan on the stove. I pretty much make this almost every year but this year I thought that I’d share it with y’all and give y’all a little gift idea!

“…you can just make this Christmas Stove Top Potpourri to make your own home smell wonderful but it’s also a sweet little gift…”
So when I was thinking about how to turn this Christmas Stove Top Potpourri into a gifts for my neighbors and family I started browsing through the Christmas section of OrientalTrading.com.
I know the Vintage truck theme is super popular right now so I was super excited to see these adorable Vintage Christmas Trucks and Tree ornaments on the site! I knew that these little ornaments would be great to add a special little touch to each basket.
I grabbed these little chip-wood baskets and packed them with everything my friends and family would need to make their own Christmas Stove Top Potpourri at home.
Here’s what I included in my Christmas Stove Top Potpourri Gift Baskets:
- An Orange
- Fresh Cranberries
- Cinnamon Sticks
- Star Anise
- Whole Cloves
- Ground Nutmeg
- Fresh Rosemary
- Vanilla Extract
Here are a few little tips for you:
- If you’re looking for the whole Star Anise, look in the Mexican section of the grocery store. I normally find little bags of whole Star Anise or about 64 cents a bag. If you look in the regular spice section, you’re probably only going to find Anise seeds for like $8! No thanks!
- Second, to get the vanilla into the package, break the cinnamon sticks in half and place them into a plastic bag. Pour in the vanilla and shake it up. Let it sit while you assemble the baskets and then drop them into the bag before you tie it close.
- Third, put the basket into the bag BEFORE you start adding things too it. That way, everything stays in the the bag and when it’s time to make it all your friends and family need to do it take out the orange and dump the bag into the pot.
After you get everything packed up and tie it with a few strings if baking twine and add one of these little gift tags!
