When I use to work at Starbucks, one of our most popular drinks around Christmas was the Peppermint Mocha or White Peppermint Mocha. Iced or Hot, these drinks flew out the window of our Starbucks all day long.
I love going to Starbucks and our local coffee shops but I also love making these drinks at home.

Peppermint syrup:
- white sugar

How to make homemade Starbucks Peppermint Mocha:
- Make Peppermint Syrup
In a medium saucepan, add water and sugar to a boil. Stir well and stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Once the mixture has reached a boil, reduce heat to a low simmer.
When boiling has stopped, add in half of the peppermint extract (1.5 tsp). Stir well. Turn off heat - Making Mocha
Add powdered cocoa to a bowl.

Mix together the warm water and cocoa to create a paste.
To the cocoa mixture add the espresso, and remaining peppermint extract (1.5 tsp). - Fill the mug
In a coffee mug add the cocoa paste
- Add syrup
1 tablespoon of peppermint syrup
- add steamed milk
and the steamed milk.

Stir and drink as is, or with whipped cream and crushed up candy canes!
Frequently Asked Questions
YES! For a hot Peppermint Mocha, use this recipe and stop after adding the steamed milk (and stirring). For an Iced Peppermint Mocha, let the mixture cool slightly and then pour it over ice.
Peppermint and mint extract are two different flavors so you’ll want to use peppermint. You can also buy peppermint coffee syrup if you don’t want to make your own.

Ingredients
Peppermint syrup:
- 1/4 cup of sugar

- 3 tablespoons warm water
- 1/2 cup hot espresso*
- 1.5 teaspoons peppermint extract
- 1.5 cups steamed milk
