Remember back a while ago, I told you about my first Food Truck experience when we ate lunch at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck ? Well it just so happens that I had my second Food Truck Experience the same day 🙂
You see I actually saw this Crepe truck first that day on the North Shore but I knew we needed real food first before I jumped head first into any decadent crêpes! I have been in love with crêpes since the day I stood in the middle of Paris and ate my very first one; it was a Chocolate and Whipped Cream Crêpe. It was so good that I have yet to forget it after almost 14 years.
I have tried to recreate them at home and while they’ve been good they haven’t been as good as “the one”. When we went to Disney World, I had the chocolate crêpe in “France” while at Epcot. It was very good but still even though it was good it wasn’t “the one”. Nothing could touch that Chocolate and Whipped Cream Crêpe from the streets of Paris.
But in Hawaii on the North Shore, the one place I didn’t even expect to have a crêpe, there is was, the Délice Crêpes truck. I knew I had to have one; I had to try it.
We parked behind the Crêpe Truck and hurried around to the window to see what all they had to offer! The sky had been having a fight between the rain and the sun all day so we didn’t know how much time we would have before the clouds opened up again and poured down on us!
I, of course, went straight for the sweet side! My mouth dropped at all of the sweet crêpes! Would it be possible to have them all?! How many could I sneak back to the car without BigBear giving me “the look” haha. If Big Bear had let me I probably would have sat there all day and sampled each one.
I mean really! How do you even choose? Nutella & Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Blackberry Jam, or how about Honey, Strawberry & Banana?! Good Lord just pile everything onto one and hand it to me! haha
We haven’t even gotten to the Savory menu!
Ahhh! Turkey, Mozzarella, Avocado & Tomato? Chicken, Mozzarella, Pesto & Tomato? Have Mercy! I could seriously just sleep on that bench in front of this truck, eat here everyday and be happy for the rest of my life. (Heck the beach is like right down the road, why did I even come back to VA)
Need for it to be gluten free? Jonathan has you covered! If you order a crêpe and have him make it with the “savory batter”, you can indulge in an amazing gluten free treat! Not to mention everything is organic here AND some of it even comes from local farmers!
So what did we order? Well, Big Bear got the DELICE – Nutella and Banana Crêpe and I went with the HALEIWA – Honey, Strawberry & Banana! For the record, I can not pronounce Haleiwa. Jonathan tried to get me to pronounce it correctly about six times and then I gave up haha.
There he is making my crêpe!
Then the moment of truth. Would this crepe be as good as the one I had on the streets of Paris over a decade ago? Would it be a crepe that I would think about for years to come? Would it be “the one”?
Ladies and Gentlemen….. We have a WINNER!!
The crepe was light and soft; it was filled with strawberry and banana slices that were smothered in sweet honey. It was “the one”. It was what I had been looking for and for a moment I was transported back to the streets of Paris and back to my first crepe experience. It was heaven.
We sat at a little table outside of the truck and enjoyed our crepes as the clouds started to move in again. It started to rain which sent the others scrambling but Big Bear and I sat under the little umbrella at our table and savored the moment and the crêpes. Jonathan came out of the truck and start to move the other chairs and tables as well as to lower the menu boards so that the rain didn’t wash them completely; I’m sure he thought we were crazy as I literally let my back and my hair get drenched so that I could finish my Haleiwa Crêpe. He came over to chat for a bit and told us that he was from France and that he use to be a tour guide and would bring people from France to Hawaii for tours!! Can you believe it? I travel all the way to Hawaii and find the most amazing Crêpes from a Food Truck made by a French gentleman! That must be why I loved it so much! 😉
He also told us about a surfing competition up the road and about the perfect surfing weather of the day! I was eager to check it out! We finished our crêpes, thanked him and headed to the car in search of our next destination. I’m pretty sure that he probably headed out to take advantage of the killer waves on the North Shore as well!
