Do you have one of those dessert recipes that you stick in your back pocket because it’s so easy and just perfect for company? I’ve got a few of them that I just love. It makes it so much easier to whip up a quick dessert when I have a collection to choose from.
Marshmallow Cereal Treats have always been one of my favorite treats from that collection. You might think that they’re just plain jane but once you add a few special touches to them you can turn these simple treats into a delicious showstopping dessert.
These Marshmallow Cereal Treats start off like any other marshmallow treat but the toppings and mix ins are what takes these treats over the top!
So let’s talk about this butter for a second. I used the Finlandia unsalted butter for these marshmallow treats! Finlandia is a new to me butter company and I was excited to give them a try for this dessert. Now while Finlandia is new to me, they’re not new to making butter or cheese! Finlandia has been making cheese and butter in Finland for over 100 years!
Here’s a little behind the scenes on Finlandia:
Their butter is made using milk from cows that are raised on family owned Finnish farms and their butter has nothing artificial added.
Plus the butter is extremely smooth, spreadable and delicious. I used it to make these treats but I also did a little taste testing on my own to see how I liked the butter before I used it, you know I have to make sure it’s good before I make any of my treats with it!
I loved how smoothly it was spread out when I was testing it for spreadability too! If you’re going to make amazing desserts like this, you’re going to need to use amazing butter.
So let’s get onto making these Deluxe Chocolate Top S’more Marshmallow Cereal Treats!!
You’re going to want to start by melting 4 tablespoons of unsalted Finlandia™ butter into a large pot. Once the butter is melted, mix in 10 oz of mini marshmallows and stir until melted.
As soon as the marshmallows are melted stir in the crispy rice cereal until it’s coated.
Once the melted marshmallows have covered all of the cereal, remove the pot from the heat.
Now it’s time to mix in 2 cups of mini marshmallows and the mini chocolate chips.
Mix in the marshmallows and stir in the mini chocolate chips but only stir enough to get them mixed in. Don’t mix it too much because you don’t want it to become completely coated in chocolate.
These last few marshmallows that you add in will melt just slightly due to the heat from the cereal but you’ll still be able to see them when you cut into these s’more cereal treats.
After you’ve mixed everything together, pour the cereal mixture into a prepared pan, that has been covered with Finlandia butter, and use a spatula to spread it out into a single layer.
Now it’s time to start adding the toppings to take these treats to the next level.
Melt the chocolate candy wafers in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second bursts. I normally set the microwave for 2 minutes, watch the timer and take the bowl out every 30 seconds to stir. Do this until all of the chocolate is melted.
When the chocolate is melted and smooth, pour it over the treats in the pan and spread it out to cover the entire top.
Break up some of the graham crackers and sprinkle them over the melted chocolate. Sprinkle on some of the mini chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.
Once the top is covered to your liking, let the treats sit at room temperature until the chocolate has hardened. If you need it to harden quicker, place them into the fridge but please note that if you do this they treats may not be as soft when you eat them.
When the chocolate has hardened, cut the treats into squares and serve.
I love fancy desserts y’all, don’t get me wrong.
However, sometimes I just don’t have the patience to make a super crazy, complicated treat. Sometimes I just want to whip up something easy that I know everyone’s going to love.
That way I can spend time with my friends and family but I can still serve up something sweet.
Plus, I can tell you from experience that these treats travel well and they’re a welcome surprise to friends and family.
Last time I made these, I cut them up into little squares, packed them up for our trip. I took them with me to Wilmington to share with our family and friends.
If you’re going to travel with them or make them ahead of time, just packed them up in a air tight container or a plastic bag that you can seal closed. They should be good for quite a few days if they’re packed up like this. I personally think they get better with time anyways.
