- Mix
Add egg, melted shortening and milk. Mix until smooth batter forms.
- Heat and Dip
In a deep pot, add oil and heat to 350°*
Pour batter into a tall cup.
Skewer the hotdogs and dip into the batter. - Twirl and Fry!
Place the battered hotdog in the hot oil spinning it as it drops.
Fry until crust is golden brown.
Rotate the corn dog with tongs to cook all side evenly.
Don’t load too many into the pan at a time because they will stick to each other and they will make the oil temperature drop. Fry 2 or 3 at a time until all of them are done. - Let cool and enjoy. Serve with ketchup and mustard.

If you are making a lot of them, place the ones that have been fried into a pile in the microwave or oven to keep them warm. You can also wrap them in foil as they come out of the fryer so that they won’t get cold while you work on frying up the others.
