How To Make French Toast Roll Ups:
-
First, we’re going to flatten a slice of white bread. (I’ve only made it with white bread and sourdough but you can try any kind)
Just lay out a piece of bread and use a rolling pin to flatten it out. -
Now, we’re going to cut the crust off of the bread.
-
Now, it is time for the filling! We’re mixing together brown sugar and melted butter together to brush / spread onto the bottom half of the bread. (click here for the full recipe)
-
Starting on side with filling, roll each slice of bread “jelly-roll style.”
-
Melt remaining butter in a skillet / pan on low medium heat.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together everything needed for the egg mixture to dip the french toast rolls. (click here for the full recipe)
Dip each piece of rolled bread into the mixture. -
Make sure to coat all sides.
-
Place rollups in hot skillet, seam side down, and cook for 2 minutes.
-
Cook roll ups on each side for about 2 minutes each side, until golden brown and slightly crisp.
You can serve them as is with maple syrup / pancake syrup or dust them with powdered sugar before serving!
French Toast Roll Up Filling Ideas:
One of the best things about French toast roll-ups is that you can customize them to your taste buds. Here are some options to consider:
1. Sweet fillings: For those with a sweet tooth, try Nutella, peanut butter, cream cheese, sliced bananas, strawberries, blueberries, or chocolate chips.
2. Savory fillings: If you prefer something savory, consider ham and cheese, cooked bacon, scrambled eggs, spinach, or diced tomatoes.
Mix and match your fillings to create a unique flavor experience. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new. Just be sure to choose fillings that are appropriate for the roll-up size to avoid overflowing.
Can French Roll Ups Be Made In Advance?
I personally think that they are best when they’re hot a fresh but you can make them a day ahead of time.
Store them in an airtight container and then just heat them up in the microwave, dust them with powdered sugar and serve.
