How to make these wings in the air fryer:
Ready to make some hot honey chicken wings at home? Lets go!
Are those chicken wings frozen? You need to let them defrost first. You want to use defrosted or fresh chicken wings for this recipe. I haven’t tested this with frozen chicken wings.
If the wings are whole, carefully use a knife to separate the drums and flat sections of the wings. You may also want to cut off the little wing tip. I think that is totally preference but I like to cut that tip off.
Dry the wings well by patting them dry with a paper towel. Chicken wings will air fry better if they are not damp or wet. You want them to get crispy and not soggy.
Combine the flour and salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl. I use about 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper but you can use more or less. We don’t use a lot of salt in our cooking and I don’t like overly salty wings.
Add the wings to the flour mixture and toss to coat them.
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees for 3-5 minutes.
Can you stack chicken wings in an air fryer?
Lets not stack them in the air fryer.
Put the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Most air fryer baskets are not large enough to keep the wings separate, so plan to cook these in 2 batches. They cook better if the wings are not touching in the basket.
How long do wings take in the air fryer?
Cook the wings for 10 minutes and then flip the wings and cook for another 5-8 minutes. Leave about 3 minutes of cooking time for after they are coated with the sauce. The total cook time will depend on the size of the wings.
MAKE THE SAUCE WHILE THE WINGS ARE COOKING:
Combine the hot sauce, butter and honey in a small sauce pan. Heat to melt the butter and stir to combine.
Add the lemon juice, Italian Seasoning packet and basil to the sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the sauce and the wings to a second (clean) large mixing bowl.
Toss to coat the wings with the Hot Honey sauce and put them back in the air fryer for 3 minutes. This step will give the wings a nice “sticky” sauce that stays on the wings and provides the a wonderful texture.
Serve with vegetables and your favorite dipping sauce, like Blue Cheese or Ranch dressing

Hot and Honey Air Fryer Wings FAQ:
- How do I store leftover wings? Leftover wings can be stored in the refrigerator in an air tight container for 1-2 days.
- Can I use an oven style air fryer? If you have an oven style of air fryer it will also work well for this recipe and the
wings can be cooked on multiple racks in one batch. - What hot sauce do you use? I like Texas Pete and Franks Red Hot the best.

- Salt and Pepper
Sauce:
- 6 Tablespoons Hot Sauce
- 6 Tablespoons Butter
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
- ¼ Cup Honey
- 1 (0.7 oz) Packet of Dry Italian Dressing mix
- 1 Tablespoon dried Basil
Instructions

If using frozen wings, be sure to fully defrost them before cooking. Frozen foods do not fully cook in an air fryer well.
Dry the wings well by patting them dry with a paper towel. They will air fry better if they are not damp or wet.
Combine the flour and salt and pepper to taste in a large mixing bowl. I use about 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper but you can use more or less.
Add the wings and toss to coat them.
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees for 3-5 minutes.
Put the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Most air fryer baskets are not large enough to keep the wings separate, so plan to cook these in 2 batches. They cook better if the wings are not touching in the basket.
Cook the wings for 10 minutes and then flip the wings and cook for another 5-8 minutes. Leave about 3 minutes of cooking time for after they are coated with the sauce. The total cook time will depend on the size of the wings.
Make the sauce while the wings are cooking.
Combine the hot sauce, butter and honey in a small sauce pan. Heat to melt the butter and stir to combine.
Add the Lemon juice, Italian Seasoning packet and basil to the sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the sauce and the wings to a second large mixing bowl.
Toss to coat the wings with the Hot Honey sauce and put them back in the air fryer for 3 minutes. This step will give the wings a nice “sticky” sauce that stays on the wings and provides the a wonderful texture.
Notes
● If you have an oven style of air fryer it will also work well for this recipe and the
wings can be cooked on multiple racks in one batch
● Spraying the basket with cooking spray will help with the cleanup and the crispness of
the wings
● I use Good Seasonings Italian Seasoning mix, but, any brand would work fine. As a variation, you could also use a ranch seasoning mix with or without the honey.
● Any Hot Sauce will do, I usually use Texas Pete or Frank’s Hot Sauce
● Serve with vegetables and your favorite dipping sauce, like Blue Cheese or Ranch dressing
