How to Set Up the Perfect Hot Chocolate Bar

The month of cookie swaps, Christmas lights and hot chocolate is upon us! Who am I kidding, hot chocolate month is every month for me!

Ok, well maybe not June but in June I’m still drinking chocolate milk so perhaps I should say that chocolate milk month is every month in my house. 😉

Literally I’m like a 5 year old; I could drink chocolate milk with every meal. haha But the second we start to get a chill in the air I’m pulling out the mugs and making hot chocolate every night.

This new apartment has brought out my “cozy side” that I’ve been searching for. I can actually relax here and just have “me” time. Not that I get to have a lot of downtime but when I do get a chance to jump on the couch with my fleece blanket and mug of hot chocolate I find that I actually can unwind here and just breath for a bit.

You may remember in previous posts that I’ve talked about how much I wanted to just relax with a good book and snuggle up in front of the fire place every winter. I use to do that all the time when we lived in NC but I haven’t been able to relax like that in years…until now.

Speaking of the apartment, the new apartment also makes me WANT to have indoor cozy gatherings with friends and family. We had our first dinner guests over the other night and I can’t wait to have more. I know I talked to you the other day about cookie swap gatherings and I’m still thinking about having one! If it doesn’t happen this year, I’m 100% going to have one next year!

But let’s move on,ok? You’re here to read about “How to Set Up the Perfect Hot Chocolate Bar and I want to tell you all about that! I know some people think that setting up something like a Hot Chocolate Bar at home is too much work but I’m here to tell you that it’s easy peasy and that you’re going to wonder why you haven’t been doing this all along!

You don’t have to put a lot of money into it, you don’t have to set out hundreds of items and you don’t have to spend a ton of time on it.

Ready to set up an easy but perfect Hot Chocolate Bar? Let’s do this!

How to Set Up the Perfect Hot Chocolate Bar

Here’s what I sit out when I’m putting together my Hot Chocolate Bar:

  • A variety of colorful mugs or Christmas mugs
  • Pretty glass jars of mini peppermint marshmallows
  • Glass jars of regular mini marshmallows
  • A few jars of mini chocolate chips
  • A large jar of peppermint sticks
  • TruMoo Chocolate milk

You can add any type of candy or chocolate that you want to the hot chocolate bar, these are just the items that I normally stick to.
Oh and Ps….you’ll probably want to throw in a plate of cookies too just for good measure. 😉

TruMoo Chocolate Milk

Let’s start with the main thing that you’re going to need for any hot chocolate bar, the hot chocolate. For this hot chocolate bar TruMoo is the chocolate milk of choice! There is no mixing required and it heats up in a jiffy in the microwave or in a sauce pan on the stove top.

If you don’t know much about TruMoo let me take just a second to tell you a tad about it. It’s real milk (1% Lowfat Milk) that’s got the perfect amount of Chocolate mixed right in. It’s available nationwide (our store has the gallon and half gallon jugs) and it’s perfect cold when the weather is warm and it’s fantastic hot when it’s chilly outside!

Now the Hot Chocolate bar is all set up so let’s make our first mug of hot chocolate!

First you’re going to need to heat up the TruMoo Chocolate milk.

Next, go ahead and pick out your favorite mug.

I lined up everything in a row and added these cute little chalkboard labels to everything to help the line move along. 😉

Once you’ve filled your favorite mug with the Hot/Warm TruMoo Chocolate Milk it’s time to add in your mix-ins and toppings.

How to Set Up the Perfect Hot Chocolate Bar

I’ve set out little jars of mini peppermint marshmallows and regular mini marshmallows, so scoop up some of those and toss them onto the top of the hot chocolate.

You’ll also want to toss on a few mini chocolate chips…or don’t…more for me if you leave them behind but I highly recommend them.

Then you just need to grab a peppermint stick to stir it and sweeten the deal! That’s it, you’re done.

Heck yeah, this sounds like a plan to me! I could totally cozy up with a mug next to a fire with a book – but this hot chocolate bar would make for such a fun girl’s night, too!

Love this. Any “make-your-own” assembly line for get togethers is such a fun update to a regular old buffet. Delicious, too!

Did you use chocolate milk at your wedding. I have a west bend coffee maker, I was wanting to use it to make hot chocolate for my son’s wedding. How do you think that would work?

Hey! We had hot chocolate with milk and water (labeled both) and I just used the little thermal pitchers things but a west bend coffee maker would probably work. I’ve never used one though. We just had someone make it before the reception and put it in the thermal pitchers and such.

The clips? Which ones are you talking about? There aren’t any clips that I can remember 🙂 They had twine connected to them that I hung around the lip of the jars. Is that what you meant?
