Monkey Bread
Right before my husband deployed to IRAQ in 2008, I got a job to try and keep myself busy while he was away. Sadly the only job in the area that I got called back for was for the Bakery in a Food lion about 15 minutes from the house.
At first I thought that this was awesome. A Bakery. I could learn something. Well I did learn something… a few things….
I learned how to get yelled at by rude customers (which I kinda already learned as a waitress)
I learned that Marine Wives thought they were better than me, because I was a NAVY wife
I learned that even if I was arm deep in unpacking raw chicken and the other lady (that had been working there longer) was just standing there, I had better drop everything I was doing to work with the customers, becasue she was having a rough day (everyday).
I learned that taking the day off because you had to take your husband to base to deploy was frowned on.
I learned that Food lion Bakeries Food is Gross and Priced to high for what it is
The only good thing I discovered while working at Food Lion was Monkey Bread.
I’d never heard of monkey bread before, and while ours did come half way done, and all we had to do was bake it, it smelled wonderful baking and always sold out.
So I thought I could do that, If a Food Lion Bakery can make Monkey Bread… I can definitely do this!
I found a few recipes online and now I’ve got this:
Monkey Bread
(Printable Recipe Here)
What you need:
1 cup of butter

1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 tsp of sugar
3 tsp of cinnamon
1 Can of refrigerated biscuits

What to do:

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat.

Once butter is melted add the brown sugar.

Heat over medium heat until the brown sugar has melted and has become smooth.

Remove from heat.

While the brown sugar mixture is sitting, mix cinnamon and sugar in a gallon size freezer bag.

Tear the biscuits into pieces and put them into the freezer bag.

Shake the bag until the biscuits are covered. (You may want to do a few at a time to make sure they are all well coated)

Spray a high sided pan with non-stick spray.

Layer the bottom of the pan with biscuits.

Drizzle some of the brown sugar mixture over the layer.

Add another layer of biscuits.

Drizzle some of the brown sugar mixture over the layer.

Add another layer of biscuits.

Continue that sequence until there are no more biscuits.

Cover your pan with aluminum foil.
Place your Monkey Bread into the oven for 20 minutes.

Depending on your oven you may need more or less time. The original recipe I was looking at only said to cook it for 13 minutes but when I took it out and tried it, the dough was still raw. No one wants raw biscuit dough. haha
