THIS WEEK’S CRAVINGS Linky Party #62

The Theme is:   Let’s Get Healthy… Healthy Meals & Snacks
(Please share with us your favorite  Healthy Meals & Snack Recipes)

Happy New Years!
It’s the first week of the New Year which means a lot of people go into “Super Healthy Food Mode”.

Well… I don’t. I mean, I’m always trying to balance my good and bad foods, but I don’t automatically start eating super healthy on January 1st.

But since today is : “This Weeks Cravings’s Let’s Get Healthy… Healthy Meals & Snacks” I want to share with you a No-Salt Seasoning “Salt”.

We all know salt isn’t the best thing you can load up on.

When BigBear went to a nutrition class, when he was in the military, they gave him a few different recipes for No-Salt Seasoning “Salt” to use in our cooking.

So here is one of the recipes that we use. We still use salt, just not as much anymore. Most of the time in recipes (not baked goods), I like to use this instead of salt.

No-Salt Seasoning “Salt”

Makes a Small Jar (around 4 oz)

(Printable Recipe Here)

Add this recipe to ZipList!

What you need:

5 Teaspoons onion powder
1 Tablespoon paprika
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon ground mustard
1 Teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 Teaspoon dried basil
1/2 Teaspoon pepper

What to do:

Mix everything together.  Place in a small shaker or container.

Add in place of salt in recipes (not in baked goods though…eww)

I made this and wrote about it here. I can’t believe how much it tastes like it has salt in it. Thank you for sharing the recipe!

This is such a great seasoning to use in place of salt. I hardly every good with salt anymore. I mean I have it for like baking and stuff but I hardly ever season food with it, or if I do, I don’t use a lot at all! I’ve been loving that low carb lifestyle. haha I thought that I was going to have trouble with it but it’s great!

This no salt recipe is the best I’ve found. It’s great on everything from eggs to veggies to meats. Thanks for sharing.

I just made this but have a doubt.I used granulated simple dried onion as I haven’t seen onion powder.I also have the store bought granulated fried onion.Super yummy but not the healthiest so use it scarcely.Which one should one use?As the colour of mine was less reddish, must I assume the fried one as that is light brown also by comparison to the whitish simple dehydrated one?Thank you in advance

      Hi Gabriela,
You don’t use dried onion or fried onion, you need to use onion powder. It’s on the spice aisle. The recipe came from a nutritionist and it’s a bunch of spices, so I don’t think it would be considered unhealthy.

This is fantastic I will be making this for sure. My husband needs to watch his salt intake he is only allowed to have 1,200 mg of salt daily. And since even an egg has salt I need to watch from bread to veggies the amount of salt. But it’s so hard to make things taste good! So if you have other ideas would be great to hear from you!

Does this mix have any sodium at all, as I have stage 3 kidney failure and are only allowed 1500mg of sodium daily,

It has 13mg of Sodium in the entire container if you make it exactly as written. Per serving will depend on how much you use.

Meet Angie

I love the Farmer’s Market and Farm to Table meals but I’m also not ashamed to use canned vegetables and baking mixes. It’s all about balance! I’m so glad y’all are here!
