Have you even made a box for Operation Christmas Child? When we were growing up our church took part in it every year and collected tons of donations to make these shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We always took things to be donated that were added to the boxes but I don’t remember ever making a box on my own. We always took an Angel Tree child from the Angel Tree but never made our own shoes boxes.
Christmas has always been one of my favorite times of year. Snow, Candy Canes, Choirs, Cookies, Decorations, Church Christmas Services, Candles, Holiday Cheer and Presents. 🙂 Well when I was younger is was the presents. And lots of presents. We didn’t go without when I was growing up. I am always thankful that my parents were able to provide not only our needs but our wants. Sadly not all parents are able to give their children their needs or wants for Christmas.
This year we’re forgoing all of the Christmas presents for each other (stuff we don’t need anyways) and putting that money towards a vacation together so that our family can spend time together this holiday with no worries. But since I won’t be spending a ton of money on Christmas presents for the family this year, I’ll be taking an Angel or two from the Angel Tree and filling a few show boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
There are so many little ones out there that would love to have a little gift this year and your shoe box could bring a smile to their little faces!
Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes are perfect to put together with your children as well (and since I don’t have kids yet, my niece might be my little helper for a few of these). Little ones can help in picking out the items and packing the boxes. What a fun way to teach them about the season of giving. 🙂
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Print out the appropriate boy/girl label. Mark the correct age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your box.
Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Use the gift ideas provided on the bottom of this page. Please donate $7 or more for each shoe box you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. You can give online by using our “Follow Your Box Donation” option, or you can write a check to Samaritan’s Purse (note “OCC” on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoe box, please make one combined donation.”
Place a rubber band around each closed shoe box and drop it off at the collection center nearest you during our collection week, November 12-19, 2012.
For locations and hours of collection visit our Drop-Off Locations page where you can find the nearest place to take your shoe box by entering your ZIP Code or you can call 1-800-353-5949.
You can also send your shoe box gift to:
Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child
801 Bamboo Road
Boone, NC 28607
We made our 2 boxes online, but I have a feeling that’s welling be making more personal ones to take to the church!
(Here is a little information on what to send and what not to send)
