Most of the time I am the one that picks out what to make for my blog. I normally cook and bake things that I know Big Bear will love but as far as making a decision on what I’ll be making, that is usually all mine.
But this month when I was looking through Kita’s Site, Pass the Sushi, I let hubby look around the site with me and asked him to help me find a recipe to make for this month’s Secret Recipe Club.
We looked through Kita’s beautiful site for a little while, pouring over her delicious recipes and beautiful photos until we ran across her Panko Mozzarella Sticks. Hubby was sold. haha.
He loves Mozzarella Sticks. They are probably his favorite thing to get when we do go out to eat.
I’ve never tried to make Mozzarella Sticks but after reading Kita’s post about it, I figured they would be pretty easy to make. I’m not to good with frying things haha. Most of the time when I fry things they turn into inedible rocks. Well that was before hubby bought me a deep fryer for Christmas. Even though after that, I’ve only used it about 5 times. Oops… I kinda forget that I have it sometimes.
But I’m glad hubby didn’t forget today 🙂 These are so easy to put together and I think hubby enjoyed snacking on these very much. I love it when something makes his eyes light up haha.
Last year, my friend Amanda (Amanda’s Cookin) started a wonderful Club called The Secret Recipe Club. It started off with a small group of Food bloggers that Amanda knew and has grown to almost 300 members!! We have so many members now that we have 4 different “Groups”.
Find out more about it here .
Today is Group C’s Reveal Day!
What you need:
12 pieces Mozzarella string cheese, cut in half
1/2 cup flour
2 eggs
3 tablespoons milk
2 cups panko bread crumbs
1 tbs dried parsley
1/2 teaspoons pepper
1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoons granulated garlic
Vegetable oil, for frying
What you do:
Upwrap the string cheese and cut the string cheese in half.
You’ll need 3 bowls for this.
In the first bowl : Flour
In the second bowl: Whisk the eggs with the milk.
In the third bowl: Combine the panko, parsley, salt, pepper and garlic. Stir.
Next, one at a time, drop the cheese in the flour, and tap off the excess.
Next, dip the cheese in the egg mixture, make sure it’s covered and tap off the excess.
After that, roll the cheese in the panko crumb mixture.
Gently remove and place on a baking sheet.
Place the sheet in a freezer for 30 minutes to quickly freeze the cheese before trying to fry it.
After the cheese has been in the freezer for about 30 minutes it’s ready to fry.
I used a deepfryer for these. Pre-heat the deep fryer to 350F. Drop in a few cheese sticks and let them fry for about 1 minute until light brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel lined plate to drain.
(Kita used a medium saucepan with the canola oil to cook her mozzarella sticks. She heated it over medium-high heat until hot. She added the cheese and turned over each one until evenly brown, cooking less than 2 minutes.)
