My toddler, Jackson, loves Halloween! The only thing he doesn’t really love about Halloween is Spiders! Well, not only Halloween but he just doesn’t like Spiders or “PIDERS” as he says. So, I decided to make Spider cookies, like the good mom I am. haha. Just kidding, I didn’t make them just because he doesn’t like spiders. I made these Peanut Butter Spider Cookies for Halloween for the blog and because I knew the loves peanut butter cookies.
Since he loves peanut butter cookies, I thought maybe that these chocolate spiders might help me show him that fake spiders are ok. I was semi right. haha. He loved the cookies and he made sure to quickly eat the spider off the top of the cookie while I was with him so that he would relax and eat the peanut butter cookie.
Alright so, Peanut Butter Spider Cookies seem to be pretty popular around October and I’ve been them made with peanut butter cups and some made with malted milk balls. I wanted to make these easy spider cookies but wanted to put a spin on the candy that was used. I decided on brown M&Ms!
Brown peanut M&Ms for the spider bodies and brown regular M&Ms for the spider head, then I used melted chocolate chips for the spider legs.
What you’ll need to make Peanut Butter Spider Cookies:
- white sugar
- butter
- creamy peanut butter
- brown sugar
- baking powder
- baking soda
- flour
- egg
- brown peanut M&Ms candies
- brown regular M&Ms candies
- chocolate chips
How to make Peanut Butter Spider Cookies:
Pre-heat oven to 375.
In a large bowl, stir together 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, butter and the egg. Mix until combined.
Stir in flour, baking soda, and baking powder until dough forms.
Shape dough into tablespoon size balls and place 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheet.
Bake 8-10 minutes until edges are light brown.
Remove cookies from oven and immediately slightly press cookies down a bit with your hand or a spatula.
While cookies are still hot, press 1 brown peanut M&M candy into the center of the top of the cookie. Add 1 brown regular M&M beside it for the head.
Let cookie cool completely. .
Once completely cool, melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips in a bowl in microwave until smooth.
Spoon melted chocolate into a plastic sandwich bag, snip the end and draw little chocolate spider legs on the cookies.
Let chocolate cool and harden.
These spider cookies are super soft peanut butter cookies just like my favorite Peanut Butter Blossoms! I think that this peanut butter cookie recipe would be nice for making spider web cookies or M&M peanut butter cookies.
