I have such wonderful memories of my grandparents. I don’t have a ton of memories of cooking in the kitchen with them but I still have a lot of memories attached to them.

While I may not have a lot of memories in the kitchen cooking with them, I have a lot of memories connected to them and food.

Memories of my Papa’s garden and helping him pick tomatoes and green beans, memories of sitting on my Ma’s couch with a big white bowl in my lap while I helped her snap the ends from green beans before she made dinner are still etched into my mind.

How many of y’all remember snapping green beans with your grandparents of parents? What a sweet little memory to have!

Even though that was quite a long time ago. Sometimes I wish that I could pick those memories out and sit them aside so that I never ever forget them.

My grandparents didn’t make “Whole 30” or “Paleo” meals. They didn’t fall into the Farm to Table Fab or worry if anything was Organic when they were making dinner. They just made dinner. They cooked with the vegetables from their farm, they cooked the chickens that ran around in the yard.

I wish we had that.

We don’t. I don’t know if we’ll ever have the land and space to do that. Until that day comes though, I’m going to continue my love affair with the Farmer’s Market at super simple fresh recipes like this that make me think of my grandparents.

What a perfect summer side dish. We just keep a small garden at the house, but homegrown is always so good. Luckily the Farmer’s Market and our CSA share help plug the holes! I am definitely serving this as soon as we have fresh beans and tomatoes!

Oh my gosh. How I loved snapping beans and shelling peas with my grams! I’m always looking for new ways to serve fresh veggies other than just steamed. I’ll be trying this one for sure!

Meet Angie

I love the Farmer’s Market and Farm to Table meals but I’m also not ashamed to use canned vegetables and baking mixes. It’s all about balance! I’m so glad y’all are here!
