Tootsie Roll Cookie Dough

Making the chocolate cookie dough:

First step is to make the dough for these Tootsie Roll Cookies.

This chocolate cookie dough recipes is very similar to the chocolate cookie recipe I use to make my famous Chocolate Unicorn Cookies but we’re not adding any chocolate chips to this cookie dough.

Once the dough it mixed up drop by rounded 1/2 tablespoon scoops onto a baking sheet.

Pressing thumbprints into chocolate cookie dough

Slightly press cookie down and use your thumb or the back of 1/2 tablespoon measuring spoon to create a well in middle of dough.

Once the cookies are baked, as soon as they come out of the oven and are still super hot, use the back of 1/2 tablespoon measuring spoon to press down middle of cookie again.

Let those chocolate babies cool while you make up the Tootsie Roll ganache. Yep! We are making a Tootsie Roll ganache to pour into the middle of these cookies!

Tootsie Roll Cookies

Making Tootsie Roll ganache:

You’re going to need a bunch of Tootsie Roll® Midgees for this ganache. Tootsie Roll® Midgees are basically just tiny Tootsie Rolls.

I’ve seen Tootsie Roll® Midgees sold in bags wrapped like these in the photos but last time I was at the store I saw a huge bag of unwrapped Tootsie Roll® Midgees in the candy section! Those would be perfect for these cookies.

Unwrapped Tootsie Rolls

Toss those unwrapped Tootsie Roll® Midgees and milk to small sauce pan.

Melt and stir Tootsie Roll® Midgees over medium heat until smooth to make the ganache.

Fill centers of cookies with Tootsie Roll® Midgees ganache.  Sprinkle with sea salt if desired.  Let cool.

My husband has never been a big sweets eater but since we first started dating 50 years ago, Tootsie Rolls have been his single addiction. This gene has been passed down to each of our grandchildren too so I always have a bag of Tootsie Rolls for everyone. I am trying this recipe this afternoon for an afterschool surprise. Thanks so much for creating and posting it!
