I really love using our air fryer, and we love air frying vegetables and things like burgers and chicken nuggets. These Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries so super easy to make and I love to make this Parmesan Garlic Dipping Sauce to serve with them. Our little boy, Jackson, loves them too!
What you’ll need to make Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries with Parmesan Garlic Dipping Sauce:
- butternut squash
- olive oil or avocado oil
- Italian Seasoning
FOR PARMESAN GARLIC DIPPING SAUCE:
- mayo
- finely grated Parmesan cheese
- garlic
How to make homemade Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries with Parmesan Garlic Dipping Sauce:
Peel butternut squash and cut into fries. I like to use a crinkle cutting knife to cut fries but a regular knife will work just as well. I just like the crinkle look that the crinkle cutter gives them.
I also like to cut the butternut squash in half and then in half again before cutting the fries just so that they’re not sure long or bulky.
You want them to be the size of a regular crinkle cut french fry so that they cook within the 15 minute cook time.
Place fries into a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let fries sit in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
I’ve always been taught to soak potatoes in water for 30 minutes to an hour before cooking them to remove starch. I KNOW that butternut squash is not a potato BUT butternut squash is a slightly starchy vegetable. It isn’t as quite as high in starch as a potato so I when I make Butternut Squash Fries I only tend to soak them for about 30 minutes.
Drain and pat fries dry.
The drier they are the more crispy they will become once in the air fryer.
Place fries into basket of air fryer in a single layer. Don’t over crowd the basket.
Drizzle with oil of choice and sprinkle with Italian Seasoning.
**You may need to do two batches depending on the size of the air fryer**
Set Air Fryer to 400F.
Cook fries for 15 minutes, half way through cooking open air fryer and shake fry basket.
Serve fries warm.
FOR PARMESAN GARLIC DIPPING SAUCE:
In a bowl combine mayo and finely grated Parmesan cheese.
In a sauce pan or skillet, heat grated garlic over medium heat about 2-3 minutes. Stir frequently making sure not to burn it.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly before mixing into mayo.
Serve Chilled.

Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries with Parmesan Garlic Dipping Sauce FAQ
1. Do I have to soak them in water? You don’t have to.
2. How long do you cook butternut squash in the air fryer? If you slice the fries to resemble the same size as a normal crinkle cut fry then it should take them about 15 minutes to cook. If after 15 minutes they’re still not as crispy as you’d like, pop them back in for a few minutes.
3. What other seasonings can I add to them? I love Italian seasonings but you could also use Old Bay, Salt and Pepper, Paprika, Taco Seasoning or Seasoning salt.
4. Can I make these in advance? You can cut the butternut squash fries about 24 hours in advance and store them in the fridge. However, I would not air fry these these in advance because they will loose their crispness.
