Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck was the first “restaurant” that I wrote down on my list of “Food Places in Hawaii“.
Before we had even bought our plane tickets I had already decided that I needed to eat there. That’s what foodies do… we plan vacations around food haha.
I forgot to sign my name! Well actually I remembered but I didn’t have a pen! If anyone ever goes there, sign “Angie and Thomas” for me and I’ll love you forever!! |
I’ve heard about this Food Truck for the past few years, so when we drove up to the North Shore during our trip we just had to make a stop there! What better way to spend the day of our actual anniversary than by driving to the North Shore and having our first “Shrimp Truck Experience”?! Well to be honest, it was our first food truck experience! Well, mine anyways, I’m not sure if BigBear had eaten at a food truck before, I’ll have to ask him!
A beach on the North Shore!! We hung out on the beach a bit before going in search of lunch! |
I had awful cell signal in Haleiwa, so even though I had written down the address of Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, it did me no good in a town I didn’t know. We passed a few shrimp trucks while looking for Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck but non of them looked like the photos I’d seen online so I made BigBear drive on past them. I had pretty much given up when BigBear said, “Let’s just pull down here where these Food Trucks are and see what they have”, only to be surprised that Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck was the first one we saw! haha
So if you’re in Haleiwa and you’re looking for Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, it’s directly across from the McDonalds, down in a little grove area., :).
Their menu is short and to the point! When it comes to the shrimp you’ve got about three choices! We went for the Shrimp Scampi! I assume my big camera and series of “ummmms” and “ooooos” gave it away that I hadn’t been there before because the girl at the window was like, “Never been here before? You should get the Shrimp Scampi… Lemon/Butter is good too but the Shrimp Scampi is better”
Yep, I’ll take it!
Oh and can I tell you that I love the fact that these can come in half orders! The half order was perfect for me and the full order was nice enough to satisfy BigBear!
I found that I didn’t want to eat gigantic portions while I was in Hawaii… I’m not sure if it was because I was just being more active and wasn’t getting as hungry/bored or what but I wanted lots of smaller portions instead of a few giant meals while we were there!
Here is my Half Plate! 6 jumbo, buttery, garlic shrimp and a huge scoop of white rice! (Everything here is served plate lunch style with either scoops of white rice or scoops of macaroni salad! haha)
And here is the Full order! 12 huge, buttery, garlic shrimp and 2 huge scoops of white rice! This shrimp, oh my word, let me just tell you that I think I have literally thought about it every single day since we’ve been home.
I have always loved shrimp and garlic so HELLO, match made in “Flavor Heaven” for me! Plus the white rice has the garlic sauce poured over it as well! I wish there was “smell-o-blogging” because I really want you to be able to smell this intoxicating garlic and butter. Also I am SO glad that Big Bear loves me and that he got Garlic shrimp too he may not have wanted to kiss me after lunch! They are mighty generous with the garlic!
There were little tables set up in front of the food truck and we decided to eat our lunch there since we didn’t really have plans. The weather had been a little iffy by raining some with bursts of sunshine throughout the day BUT had it been a super sunny Hawaiian day I do believe that we would have gotten our lunch “To-go” and headed over to one of the beautiful beaches and enjoyed our lunch.
Traveling to Oahu? Make sure you drive up to the North Shore one day and visit Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck in Haleiwa!

Oh My GOSH —the food looks delicious! We have found some extremely tasty food from food trucks! Someday I will visit Hawaii and check out this truck!
This looks so amazing! Now I want to eat shrimp even though it’s only 9am!!!
I have never been a shrimp person. Maybe because I have never actually tasted a shrimp before?! These look delicious though. Hawaii is beautiful in scenery but it is also known to have many hidden foodie treasures. It looks like you found a good one!
Yes, I have eaten from food trucks before-but never one with shrimp-I love shrimp!! I have never been to Hawaii either-maybe someday-in which case I will be heading to that truck!
Oh man – that food looks great, but honestly – I would be leary about eating food that I bought from a truck. I think I have been tainted by the “roach coaches” we have here in Boston.
This looks absolutely amazing! I’ll be traveling to Hawaii this year so I’m definitely going to add this place to my itinerary. Thanks!
That sounds awesome. I am such a seafood girl, and I love Hawaii. Now I can’t wait to go back!
That food looks to good to be true. Got me craving shrimp now!
I’ve never eaten at a food truck before, but that looks SO YUMMY!!!
We’ve never been to Hawaii, but I love finding local food trucks. That shrimp looks delicious!
that food is GORGEOUS. also, i can’t believe a half order isn’t a full order, wow! I hope I can try this one day 🙂
I can’t wait for my trip to Hawaii to happen. Must have that amazing looking Shrimp!!!
Ahhh those shrimps – too yummy just my favorite. I definitely would love to grab a bite of that!

I could get lost in those pictures. Thank you for sharing!
My Hubs would be in heaven if he saw this Shrimp truck. I wouldn’t be able to hold him back… We were talking about going to Hawaii in a couple of years. http://www.myjourneywithcandida.com/
My mouth is watering! Nothing better than authentic food truck cuisine and in Hawaii, I’d love it.
OK, you talked me into it. Hawaii, here we come! Sometimes the best food is not in the 5 star restaurants, I would try this in a minute!
thanks,
Mitch
So bummed you didn’t get to sign your name. Totally LOL’ed about picking your trips around restaurants. Hubby is always looking up places to eat before he travels for work.
Wow, those shrimp look delicious. I’m sure that they taste even more delectable.
I loved following your Hawaii photos…incredible! These shrimp are INCREDIBLE! Love the name, too! (partial to any thing ITALIAN:)). Beautiful photos, Angie!!
Oh that looks super good. I want some of that right now. I’m a big shrimp lover so if I ever go to Hawaii I will definitely have to go there as well.
That looks so delicious. I am a huge shrimp lover and omg does that make my mouth water. I wish I lived near by so I could taste it.
I could eat a dozen of them right now! I especially would love to try the shrimp scampi.
Those pictures make me want to go to Hawaii right now just for the food! I have always loved food trucks, and shrimp, so it looks like a match made in Heaven.
Ugh, this post really, really makes me wish I wasn’t allergic to shrimp! Everything looks delicious and the scenery is just amazing!
That food looks delicious! I just had my first food truck experience last year in Atlanta. I want to try more of them.
I’m a seafood lover! If I am ever in Hawaii, I would make it my duty to visit. This looks mouth watering good.
YUM! That looks so delicious and what a view! Wish we had something like that here.
I’m not a big shrimp fan, but that looks real appealing!
Ooh, I love “finds” like this. Food trucks are big in the neighborhood where I work in NYC downtown, but I certainly don’t have a beautiful view like that!
The scene looks so relaxing! And the food looks divine. How I’d love to jump in the picture and join you!
Oh gosh that looks so good – what a unique place to eat as well. 🙂 x
That shrimp looks so good! I’d like to try the hot. I love spicy foods.
Aww this makes me want to be able to eat shellfish. Unfortunately I’m allergic, but hubby loves shrimp.
oh, how much fun are food trucks? they have the best foods!
I am actually drooling. I am not a big seafood person but looove shrimp and holy mama those look DELICIOUS.
It’s obviously a well-liked place because look all the signatures! It look like a local gem. I love food trucks!
Well that looks delicious! I haven’t had shrimps in the 8 months since I switched to a mostly raw vegan diet
I love it when the hype is true! That really looks good; glad it just appeared in front of you. 🙂
Food trucks are so much fun! I think it would be neat to own one (especially in Hawaii)!
The food looks tasty, but that scenery… oh-my-goodness-that-scenery!! I’d love to take a trip to Hawaii. 🙂
I love food trucks, the food is always so unique and the people you meet truly enjoy what they are doing. Thanks for sharing!
I am a seafood junkie, so if I was in Hawaii I would hunt down this food truck too. Those shrimps are so tempting.
I love food trucks! I wish we had one around here. Those shrimp make me hungry!!
That looks so good!! I’m a little jealous of you right now…not going to lie! 🙂
Man, this post scream Summer!! I would love to try the Lemon Butter shrimp!!
Giovanni’s Truck rocks… the food looks so good. I saw more trucks in LA. It’s growing in NY too.
Sometimes the best food comes from a truck! I’ve never tried a shrimp truck though, but that looks yummy!
I had to rush past the post of the food. I love shrimp and I love food from trucks! Like Shell said, “That’s the best food”! The uglier the truck, the better the food I think.
Oh I’m so drooling over those shrimp right now. They look mighty good!
That shrimp looks so good! I haven’t eaten at a food truck before, either, but I would definitely try this one. Plus, it looks super cool. 🙂
Just came across your site for the first time (was looking for Hawaii travel info). Great posts about your trip to Hawaii. Am looking forward to reading more posts about it. I am really keen on going to Hawaii this year. Thanks for sharing!
When you go to the shrimp trucks you have to try the hot dogs as well. I was sceptical at first but it was honest the best I have ever had. I would definitely recommend making your way to the shrimp trucks, and on your way do some snorkeling and look at the stores around there they are really cool. I would go back in a heartbeat.
We have never missed our trip to Haleiwa in our over 25 years to have Shrimp Scampi at Giovanni’s. Best shrimp ever. We enjoy it there and take another 2 plates with us to our hotel in Imperial of Waikiki
