Brown Sugar Poptarts

Hey Y’all! It’s FRIDAY!!!! How excited are we?!

OK, well I’m only semi excited because I still have a lot of work to do this weekend but you know what I mean. haha

But today its the last day of #BrunchWeek for me (even though it really ends tomorrow) so I’m pretty excited about all of the recipes we’ve shared this weekend.

Brown Sugar Poptarts

Psst. If you forgot, Mother’s Day is the weekend and some of these brunch ideas would be PERFECT for Sunday!

Also, don’t forget about the huge #BrunchWeek giveaway at the bottom of this post!

Brown Sugar Poptarts

But, let’s move onto these poptarts! Brown Sugar Poptarts…. Homemade Brown Sugar Poptarts to be exact!

Brown Sugar Poptarts

So you may remember a few weeks go (ok…a few MONTHS AGO), I made some Homemade S’more Poptarts. Well everyone loved them! I got e-mails and messages requesting that I make more homemade poptarts and y’all were happy to give me tons of flavor suggestions.

Well, guess which one won!

Yep! Brown Sugar!

Not only did a lot of y’all ask for Brown Sugar Poptarts but my sister in law requested them too, so I knew I had to make them happen.

So let’s talk homemade Brown Sugar poptarts for a second.

YES I know there is a TON of sugar in these. NO you SHOULDN’T eat these all the time or every morning.

However, even with saying that, they do make for a tasty breakfast and a super tasty dessert with chocolate milk, hot chocolate or coffee.

You can always cut the recipe in half but I think you should make them and share them!

Brown Sugar Poptarts These sweet Brown Sugar Poptarts are the homemade version of the brown sugar poptarts that you can buy in the store! They're easy to make and ready in under and hour!

  • Prep Time: 20m
  • Cook Time: 10m
  • Total Time: 30m
  • Yield: 8 Brown Sugar Poptarts

Ingredients

Poptarts:

  • 2 rolls refrigerated rolled pie crust (found near the biscuits and cinnamon rolls in the store)
  • 1 cup Dixie Crystals Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons Dixie Crystals Cinnamon Sugar

Topping:

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Dixie Crystals brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 tablespoons hot water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dixie Crystals Cinnamon Sugar
  • 2 cups Dixie Crystals powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 400F.
  • Roll each pie dough sheet out into a large rectangle. (There are normally 2 rolls of dough in each package).
  • Using a sharp knife or a pizza roller, cut out 16 rectangles. You may need to gather the scraps and re- roll the pie dough for the last 4 rectangles.
  • Mix filling ingredients in a bowl.
  • Spoon 1 tablespoon of filling onto half of each pastry rectangle.
  • Leaving about a 1/4 inch or 1/2 an inch border around the edges.
  • Wet your finger with a little water and run it around the bare edges of the dough.
  • Add a top layer of pie dough and press the edges down to seal in the filling.
  • Take a fork and press the edges sealed all the the way around the poptart.
  • Bake at 400F for about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and place on a wire tray to cool.
  • Once they\'re cool, start making the glaze.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the melted butter and brown sugar.
  • Mix in the cinnamon sugar.
  • Mix well.
  • Add in the powdered sugar and hot water. Mix until smooth.
  • Use a spoon and scoop the glaze out onto the poptarts. Use the back off the spoon to smooth it over the top of the poptarts.
  • If it starts to get too thick in the bowl while you're glazing the poptarts just pop the bowl into the microwave for about 5-10 seconds.
  • Glaze will harden as it cools.
  • While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle a little cinnamon sugr over the glaze.
  • Let poptarts sit for just a bit until glaze dries.
  • (PS. if you want to heat these, heat them in the oven or the microwave, DON\'T put them in the toaster....the glaze will melt into your toaster)
