If you love freshly baked cookies but don’t want to bake up dozens at a time just for a craving, this post is for you! I love cookies, I most importantly love freshly baked, warm from the oven chocolate chip cookies.
While I do give away a lot of the treats that I make, cookies are my weakness. However, when a craving for a warm cookie hits, it’s just not reasonably to bake up 40 cookies so that I can eat 1 or 2.
That’s why I love to freeze pre-rolled cookie dough and freeze it! It’s perfect for baking up a few cookies for the family after dinner without making a huge batch of dough and 35 extra cookies that will need to find a home!
What you’ll need for Freezing Cookie Dough:
- Cookie Dough
- Parchment Paper or Foil
- Baking Sheet that will fit in your freezer
- Ziploc Bags
- Ziploc Freezer Bags
- Marker
- Freezer
Making your dough:
Make your cookie dough as you normally would. Follow your recipe or use one of these:
- Ferrero Rocher Cookies
- Chocolate Unicorn Cookies
- Bakery Style White Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Chocolate Dipped English Toffee Peanut M&M Cookies
- Chocolate Chunk Butterfinger Cookies
Prepping cookie dough for freezing:
Line a baking sheet (one that will fit into your freezer) with parchment paper or foil.
Scoop out cookie dough, form into balls and place cookie dough balls onto prepared baking sheet just as if you were getting ready to bake them. They can be placed close together but don’t let them touch.
Place the sheet into the freeze and let them chill overnight or until they’re frozen.
Storing Frozen Cookie Dough:
Once cookie dough balls are frozen, pop them off of the baking sheet and place them into 1 large freezer bag or place a few into smaller sandwich bags and then place the sandwich bags into a large freezer bag.
Before you close the bags make sure to get out as much air as you can.
Write the type of cookie and and date on each bag. Place the bag into the freezer. Now you’ve got cookie dough ready to go! You can store it in the freezer like this for around 3 months or so.
Baking frozen cookie dough:
When you’re ready to bake up a few cookies, just remove a few cookie dough balls from the bag and place them on a prepared baking sheet. Bake them according to your recipe’s original directions.
NO NEED TO THAW THE DOUGH
Just bake from frozen!
We baked up a few chocolate chip cookies from our freezer stash this evening after dinner and it was so nice to have freshly baked, warm from the oven cookies to share with everyone after dinner without making to make a ton of cookie dough.
