Our little boy loves Dinosaurs and for his 3rd birthday we threw him a sweet little dino party! Normally his parties big and outdoors but this party was back in 2020 and we weren’t gathering in large numbers at the time. So we had a little tiny family dinner for him.
He helped me decorate the cake and helped pick out his decorations. I really think it came together perfectly and it didn’t cost a ton of money!
Jackson’s Dinosaur Birthday Party
Easy Dinosaur Decorations
Unlike Jackson’s Mickey Pumpkin Birthday Party and his Disney’s Puppy Dog Pals Birthday Party, this Dinosaur Birthday Party was inside and super small.
I only had to really decorate one room as the party room instead of our backyard!
I bought this Dinosaur Party Pack on Amazon (for around $16) and it came with these huge dinosaur balloons as well as the Orange, Blue and Green Balloons.
I also used a lot of Jackson’s toy dinos to set around the dinning room! I love it that I can “shop” his room for party decorations haha.
These Dino Fossils were used for decorations and in the favor buckets!
These Jumbo Dinosaur Cutouts came from OrientalTrading.com and I used those to line the walls around the dining room. Jackson absolutely loved these guys. I just used a bit of painters tape to stick them in the wall.
I found this Dino Dig Plastic Streamer from OrientalTrading.com as well and used it to wrap the stairs.
Table Decorations
The themes of Jackson’s parties are always centered around things he really loves, so that means I normally have A LOT of great options for party decorations right in his toy box.
I used a wooden piece from my brother and sister in law’s wedding as the base of the centerpiece and placed Jackson’s Giant T-Rex Toy in the center and then some smaller Dinosaurs from Target on the side. I only mention that the smaller ones were from Target because I found them on sale. However, we get a TON of Jackson’s dinosaur toys from the Dollar Store.
I found these Dinosaur Feet Cutouts at Hobby Lobby for $2 and used them as the place settings.
I found these dinosaur napkins and plates at the Dollar Store plus that little blue dino.
However, I did end up ordering some Dino Plates and Dino Napkins from Amazon to use as well. I used the ones from Amazon for food and the smaller ones from the Dollar Store for the desserts.
Dinosaur Party Food
As mentioned before, this party was a lot smaller than our normal parties so I kept the menu small.
I used a huge TREX balloon and the Menu board to start the line.
Isn’t this little Menu board, the cutest?! I made it using a picture frame and candlestick holders from the dollar store.
If you want to learn how to make it, I have a post on the blog here “How to make a DIY Faux Stone Party Menu Board“, They are super easy and you don’t have to make them Dino themed.
To go with the Dinosaur Theme, here was our Dinosaur Party Menu:
- Brontosaurus Bites (Meatballs and Rolls aka Meatball Sliders)
- Diplodocus Dip with Stegosaurus Spiked and Tyrannosaurus Teeth (Chips and Dip)
- Triceratops Treats (Veggie Tray)
- Raptor Nuggets (Dino Chicken Nuggets)
We also had a dessert menu that you’ll see below 🙂
First up, we have our Brontosaurus Bites which were Meatballs and Rolls for easy Meatball Sliders.
I used my Easy Italian Meatballs in Sauce Recipe and kept them in the slow cooker to keep them warm for the party.
I served the meatballs with little Hawaiian rolls and stuck little dinosaur picks into them.
I used the picks from this Dino Party Set that I orders on amazon.
Then we have Diplodocus Dip with Stegosaurus Spiked and Tyrannosaurus Teeth!
A super easy party of the party, it’s just chips and dip. I used Sour Cream and Onion dip for the dip, Cheddar Ruffle Chips for the “Stegosaurus Spiked” and Doritos as the “Tyrannosaurus Teeth”
We had a Triceratops Treats for all of our little vegetarian dinosaurs.
Vegetables we used:
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
We used a store bought veggie dip for the tray but this Ranch Spinach Dip would be great!
Raptor Nuggets aka Dino Chicken Nuggets from the grocery store rounded out the menu as one of Jackson’s favorites.
Dinosaur Cupcake and Desserts
I love making cute themed desserts for Jackson’s parties. So of course we had Dinosaur themed desserts.
First up is the Dino Grave Yard Éclair Dessert. We love eclairs and I tend to make them for almost every party we have because they’re a family favorite.
I have an entire post on how to make this Dino Graveyard Éclair Dessert here.
The Dino Fossil on top was made using a fun Dino Fossil Ice cube Tray and melted white candy coating. Then I used little chocolate rocks to decorate the top.
I also used those little rocks for Jackson’s Dinosaur Cupcake Cake.
It was just simply chocolate cupcakes formed into a square on the serving plate, chocolate frosting spread over them to lock them together and then decorated with fun dino themed decorations. This recipe for chocolate cupcakes is a great one to use!
I let Jackson pick out the dinosaurs and he had fun helping me decorate it. Is it the best most awesome cake in the world, haha no. But Jackson LOVED it and it was easy to make.
Sugar Cookies are also something that I tend to make a lot for Jackson’s parties. I normally use the sugar cookies as the party favors for Birthday parties but this time I decided to just sit them out with the desserts.
I used 3D Dinosaur Cookie Cutters for these cookies and my favorite cream cheese cookie recipe. Plus while I normally I frost these cookies with Royal Icing but decided to leave them unfrosted.. ONLY because I was tired haha.
For the second design of cookies, I baked up some simple sugar cookies and then used the foot (a clean foot) of one of the dino toys and cocoa powder to make a fossil footprint while the cookies were still hot.
Dinosaur Favors
We normally have 25 or more kids at Jackson’s birthday parties. However, this birthday was in the middle of the pandemic (yes, I’m late in posting), so for this dino party we only had about 3 kids at his party.
That meant that I did a little bit more for favors than normal.
For these Dinosaur Party Favors, I grabbed green tins from Hobby Lobby because I found them on sale but you can also find cute buckets at the Dollar Store.
Then, I filled them with all kinds of dinosaur treats!
Each Dinosaur Party Favor Tin received:
- Dinosaur Temporary Tattoos
- A Jurassic Park Cup from the Dollar Store
- Dinosaur gummies
- Dinosaur Sticker book from the Dollar Store
- A plastic Dinosaur Fossil toy
How to make Easy Dinosaur Centerpieces
Since this wasn’t a huge party, I didn’t need a bunch of centerpieces for decorations. I decided to just make a cute dino centerpiece to sit with the food.
I found these paper dinosaurs cut outs at Hobby Lobby and they were prefect for this project.
I took each dinosaur and glued skewers on to the backs of them. You could also just tape them on.
Then, I filled a green tin from Hobby Lobby with rice, for stabilization, and then added brown shredded paper to make it prettier.
A little paper decor on the front and them I just stuck the homemade dinosaur picks into the rice.
I love how it turned out. Super simple dinosaur decoration that didn’t cost a lot of money!
If you have any ideas for more Dinosaur Party food, decorations or games let me know in the comments!
