I am in LOVE with Jack Daniels Bread Pudding.
I use to get this dessert for every holiday at my favorite local place called The Yancey House.
The first time I had it was in Dec. 2009, I emailed the chef as soon as I got home and told her how amazing it was, and she responded with the recipe
The Yancey House is now closed, and the only way I’m getting Jack Daniels Bread Pudding now is out of my own kitchen. It was my special dessert, my favorite restaurant, the one I wanted for all my special events, for my birthdays, anniversary dates, Christmas lunch, Mardi Gras…… um.. yeah… I would use any holiday to get there and have bread pudding.
Quick Glance at what you’ll need to make Jack Daniels Bread Pudding: (amounts in recipe card below)
For the Bread Pudding:
- Hawaiian Bread Rolls (or any kind of soft roll)
- eggs
- brown sugar
- vanilla
- cinnamon
- whole milk
- half and half
- raisins (optional)
- Butter or cooking spray to grease pan
WHAT YOU NEED FOR JACK DANIELS SAUCE:
- heavy cream
- cinnamon
- sugar
- Jack Daniels Whiskey (about an airplane bottle worth)
- corn starch and water mixed together to make a thick paste
How do you make Jack Daniels Bread Pudding?
Generously butter a 9-inch square baking dish.
Cube the rolls into 4ths or rip them into pieces. I use to cut them into cubes for bread pudding but now I just rip them into pieces and toss them into the baking dish.
I love to use these Kings Hawaiian Rolls for this bread pudding but you can use any type of sweet soft roll that you like.
In a bowl, mix together the eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mix well.
Add in the half and half and milk. Mix well.
Pour milk mixture over the bread cubes. Make sure all of the bread is nicely coated. Gently press down the bread cubes and sprinkle with raisins.
Cover with foil and refrigerate 6-8 hours or overnight. This will allow the custard mixture to soak into the rolls. When it comes out of the fridge there will still be some liquid and that is ok. It will mostly cook out when you bake this bread pudding.
When ready to bake, pre-heat oven to 325F and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until set. The edges should be browned and the center still a little jiggly when moved. As it cools it will deflate a bit.
This bread pudding will thicken a bit when it cools but the center should be soft and like custard.
Set aside to cook and make Jack Daniels Sauce.
How to make Jack Daniels Sauce:
In a saucepan, heat the cream and sugar until hot. While it is heating up whisk the sugar to help is dissolve.
Once the cream and sugar mixture has gotten hot, add in the cornstarch paste and cinnamon. Heat and whisk until thickened, about 10 minutes.
Add in the Jack Daniels and whisk.
We don’t drink a lot of liquor so I love buying these airplane bottles for baking. It’s just the perfect amount for things like this Jack Daniels Cream sauce and my homemade Bourbon Pecan Pie!
Drizzle warm sauce over bread pudding.
Serve Warm!
I personally love to slice the bread pudding and then add the sauce to each piece but you can also pour it over the top of the entire casserole dish if you want.
Quick Glance Jack Daniels Bread Pudding FAQ:
- Can I leave out the Jack Daniels? Yep, just substitute Vanilla extract for the Jack Daniels.
