LOVE IT? PIN IT!

Red, White and Blue recipes have always held a special place in my heart. I tend to give the credit for that love to my husband because being the wife of a Military Man (an now a veteran) seems to do that to you. 🙂

This beautiful and fun Patriotic Bark is so easy to make and I love the little homemade sugar stars that are decorating some of the pieces!

Let’s talk about what kid of candy / chocolate your going to need for this bark.

Red White and Blue Candy Melts

Candy Melts

I know a lot of people call these little discs chocolate but they’re actually candy melts wafers. To be honest, it doesn’t bother me if you call them chocolate haha but if you’re looking for them in the store you’re going to want to be searching for “Candy Melts” not chocolate.

Candy melts come in all kinds of colors but for this Patriotic Bark you’ll just need red, white and blue.

Red and Blue M&Ms and Red White and Blue Sprinkles

Patriotic Candy

You’ll also need to grab some Patriotic candy. I couldn’t find any red, white and blue mini M&Ms so I just bought 2 tubes of regular mini M&Ms and picked out the red and blue ones.

I also picked up some tiny red, white and blue sprinkles!

Then, I made these homemade sugar stars to decorate the Patriotic Bark with.

White Sugar Stars

Homemade Sugar Stars:

For the homemade sugar starts you’re going to need white candy melts and granulated white sugar.

Melt white candy melts according to package directions and then carefully pour it into a piping bag.

Then cut a very small opening in the tip. Make sure that you don’t cut to big of a hole at the end of the bag or all of the melted chocolate is just going to pour out and make a mess.

Now, on a lined baking mat or a lined flat surface, pipe small stars and then sprinkle them with sugar while they are still wet.

I like to use a Silicone Baking Mat or parchment paper for piping chocolate.

Let dry 5 minutes or until solid. Remove from baking mat and set aside.

Time to make the Patriotic Bark with Sugar Stars

Now that the sugar stars are made and hardened it’s time to make the Patriotic Bark with Sugar Stars! This process is super easy.

Melted White Candy Melts

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silicone Baking Mat. Spread the white melted candy melts out with a spatula to get an even layer.

Next, it’s time for red and blue candy melts.

And the last step is to add the the white sugar stars and the patriotic candies.

After that, just let sit at room temperature or in the fridge for 15-30 minute or until it’s completely solid.

Then break or cut into shards and serve it up! It’s best if kept in an air tight container.

Q&A:
  • Can I use bagged chocolate instead of candy melts.

I really would suggest that you use the candy melts for this bark or almond bark candy coating. It’s made for candy making like this.

  • I can’t find red or blue candy melts.

If you can find white candy melts you can always dye them red and blue. Just make sure you use candy coating food coloring and not regular food coloring!
