A few easy to find ingredients and a few hours in the slow cooker is all that stands between you and these Slow Cooker Orange Chicken Wings!
Slow Cookers use to only get used around here in the dead of winter for soups. Then I moved on to using it every one in a while to make short ribs.
I hardly every used my slow cooker during the summer, which is kind of silly because that’s exactly when I needed to be using it. No one wants to use their oven during the summer, right?
Then I got to thinking….
Not only should I used my slow cooker all year long but I don’t have to only use it for recipes that are going to cook all day.
I use to be in the mindset that I could only use my slow cooker for recipes that needed 8 or 9 hours to cook.
Like, I want to set this in the mornings and have dinner ready when I get home.
However, I’ve recently started using it for recipes that only take a few hours too.
Obviously if you work 8 or 9 hours a day, you don’t want to be making slow cooker recipes that only take 4 hours but what about the days you aren’t working?
Maybe you don’t want to spend your days off in the kitchen. Maybe you want to put something in the slow cooker before church on Sunday and have a nice lunch ready for you when you get home?!
So, I’ve got Slow Cooker Orange Chicken Wings for you today! These wings take about 3 hours in the slow cooker and they’re done.
I say about 3 because I think the cook time depends on your slow cooker. Just make sure to check them! You don’t want to serve under-cooked wings.
This Slow Cooker Orange Chicken Wings recipe is my version of a slow cooker orange chicken recipe from my friend Toni’s recipe box.
Her recipe called for 2 pounds of chicken breasts or thighs but I changed it up a little and decided to make wings.
Ps. this is NOT a paid post for Smuckers, Smuckers is just the only brand of Orange Marmalade that I’ve ever used. 🙂
Slow Cooker Orange Chicken Wings
Mix chicken broth, teriyaki sauce, garlic, 1 cup orange marmalade, onion powder and cornstarch together in the bowl of a slow cooker. Add in chicken and toss to coat. Cook on high for about 3 hours. - Check wings as cooking time may vary based on slow cooker. Once done cooking remove chicken from slow cooker and add corn starch and 1/2 cup orange marmalade. Stir, add chicken back to slow cooker and cook for 10 minutes or so to thicken sauce. Sauce is not super thick. To get a thicker sauce, add more cornstarch and orange marmalade & heat to thickenSlow Cooker Orange Chicken Wings

Are the chicken wings placed in the slow cooker thawed or frozen? Thank you.

They are not frozen 🙂
Reneé says
Since I prefer chicken breast, can I just substitute 2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast for the wings?
Angie says
You can! I would just cut them into bite sized pieces before adding them in.
Jade says
Would the cook time be the same for bite sized pieces?
Angie says
Probably not because of how small the bite-sized pieces would be and you don’t want them to dry out, but I haven’t tried it with bite-sized pieces yet so I can’t say exactly how long to cook them.

This sounds very good, but I need the nutrition information.
Angie says
Hi Betty,
I’m not a professional nutritionist so that’s why I don’t add nutrition information. However there are lots of sites out there that let you copy and paste recipes into them to get the nutrition information. 🙂 Plus there are so many brands out there that I could calculate the recipe using the brands I have in my pantry and then someone else might use a different sauce or brand of marmalade and the nutrition information would be different. Here is a site I’ve used for personal use before https://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp
Amanda O'Malley says
Can u cook them on low instead?
Angie says
I’m sure they can be but I always cook these wings on high. I know that normally people say to double the cooking time when switching to low on the slow cooker, but I think 6-7 hours of cooking for tiny wings might be a bit much.
Loretta says
Hi I would like to use chicken thighs for this recipe ,would they need to cook longer in the crockpot then the wings? and do the thighs cook on low setting or high and how long to cook on low and how long to ccok on high ,I would be using 5 to 6 chicken thighs depending how big they
Thanks
Angie says
Hi Loretta,
They would need to cook longer because they are thicker with more meat. I’m guessing maybe 6 hours on low? However that’s just a guess because I haven’t made this recipe with chicken thighs. I’ve only tested it with wings.

Is this something that could be used as a frezzer meal? Can any of these recipes be used as a freezer meal?
Angie says
Hey Sharon,
I haven’t tried this as a freezer meal but I’ve got some on the blog that I’ve already tested as freezer meals – https://www.bigbearswife.com/tag/freezer-meal/
