How to make Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread :
- Wash and Hull Strawberries
The first step to this recipe is to wash and hull the fresh strawberries that you’ll be using for this recipe.
Now don’t worry if you don’t know what it means to “hull a strawberry”. It just means to remove the leaves and stem. I find that it is super easy to do this with a straw. Just place the end of the straw at the tip of the strawberry, push up and through the strawberry and it will remove the center and stem for you.
You can see it done here on this post for my Strawberry Lemonade if you need more of a visual. - Slice strawberries
Slice the strawberries and toss them into bowl.
- Bring out those juices with your sweetener
Sprinkle the strawberries with sugar and let sit for 30 minutes to bring out all of those sweet strawberries juices. This is really important, especially if you’re using berries in the winter or berries that are lacking that summer sweetness.
- Mash them a bit
Gently mash strawberries. You want them to be in pretty small pieces before tossing them into the cream cheese and mixing them with the electric mixer.
- Whip that cream cheese
In bowl of a mixer, whisk cream cheese until smooth. Add strawberries and whisk on medium until pink and strawberries are incorporated.
- Strawberry Extact
Whisk in strawberry extract if adding. If your strawberries are super sweet them you probably won’t need to add any of the strawberry extract. However, if you’re strawberries are lacking that sweet strawberry flavor, you may need just a splash of extract to bring out the strawberry flavor.
Remember! if your strawberries don’t taste like strawberries then your dip won’t either. - Let it chill
Place into fridge for 30 minutes before serving.
- Now use it as a spread or dip
Now that your strawberry cream cheese is ready, give it a stir and you can spread it onto bagels or toast. OR you can use this as an amazing strawberry dip for fruit and pretzels.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can but you’ll want to let them thaw a bit first and remove excess liquid, or your spread will be very “watery”
I haven’t done that yet but you could make a blueberry compote , let it cool and then whip it into cream cheese for a blueberry cream cheese spread. I’d love some more ideas from you! You could also try it with raspberries.
You can! Once you reach the step of mashing the berries, mash them and then strain them through a fine mesh strainer, catching the strawberry juice in a bowl. Then add that to the cream cheese. You may want to add a little bit of juice at a time though, to prevent the cream cheese from getting too “watery”.
Sure thing! If you want this to be thicker, just add the strawberries a little at a time while mixing until you reach the consistently that you want.
You can store this in an airtight container in the fridge. This should keep for about a week.
If you don’t have strawberry extract but still feel like the strawberries need a little elevation, you can use a bit of vanilla extract or honey.
